Rising above Luanda's Miramar district on Angola's Atlantic coast, a curtain-walled glass tower announced the InterContinental Luanda Miramar as the country's most ambitious hospitality statement when it opened in 2015 — a property conceived at the height of Angola's oil-boom optimism and designed to signal Luanda's arrival as a serious address for international business travel. Most arresting of all is the bar, where a monolithic counter carved from cream-and-rose-veined marble sits against backlit honey onyx shelving set into dark timber panelling — a composition that gives the room a warmth the tower's exterior deliberately withholds.
