PB hotel design editorial

Recoleta's particular brand of Porteño elegance — French Haussmann inflection meeting subtropical light, wrought-iron balconies trailing geraniums above granite pavements — sets an exacting standard for any hotel that plants itself here. CasaSur Recoleta, fitted into a low-rise building on Arenales, meets that standard by resisting the urge to compete with the neighbourhood's grandeur and instead working at a more intimate residential scale. The facade presents as quietly assured: a black canvas awning, clipped topiary in dark planters, and a pair of branded city bicycles parked outside signal a certain knowing confidence rather than institutional ambition. Inside, the lobby establishes the dominant material language — lacquered wood panelling in deep tobacco tones, a large-format mirror amplifying a branching brass-and-exposed-bulb chandelier, a generous L-shaped sofa in pale grey linen anchored by a shaggy textured rug. The guest rooms carry that warmth into something more personal: dark-stained hardwood floors, polished wood headboards, leather-upholstered benches, and X-frame writing desks in walnut and blackened steel combine into a palette that feels closer to a well-appointed Buenos Aires apartment than a standard hotel room. The dining space shifts registers entirely — white Carrara-effect tabletops, velvet beetle-form chairs in navy and sage, brass pendant lights, and a tropical-leaf mural give it the brightness of a European café transplanted to the Southern Cone.

"Don’t do it. Look elsewhere. Rooms extremely small. Moved rooms twice because each time there was something drastically wrong. First one - the table/shelf affixed to the wall was so crooked things kept sliding down. One of them was a bottle of water - cleaning up with towel I realized how dirty the floor was - the towel was black. Then, while doing the bed he n I was mortified by how the mattress cover was literally covered in stains. Moved to another room - lower category, for one night. No refund offered for the difference. The room was nicer, on the renovated floor, but even smaller than the previous one. Next day - moved again to another room of the same category I had booked. Again, even smaller than the original room, balcony smaller as well as it was near the top of the building and dimensions were affected. No room to put my luggage. Barely any room to eat when you order room service. Cleanliness still an issue. Stained bed, dirty floors. Next morning, woke up covered in bites - don’t know if it’s mosquitos (no bug screen in the balcony door) or anything else. Another issue - some sort of machinery on the roof was working on/off in cycles and waking me every time it started working again. To add insult to injury, there was no water that morning. That was the last straw. Ended up moving to another hotel for the next 6 nights and that saved my trip. I was luckily able to get a refund for the unused nights but no refund or compensation was offered for all the issues I had to deal with during my 3 nights there. Unless your standards are pretty low, don’t stay here."

"We couldn’t have asked for a better location, a more professional and kind staff, and a more comfortable room. As an added bonus, the front desk staff extended our checkout time and offered us the chance to clean up in the spa after a long, hot day of exploring the city and a longer night of travel ahead as we made our way back to the States. This boutique hotel was exactly what we were looking for at the end of our month’s long vacation. We had only two days there but will definitely find our way back on a future trip."
