PB hotel design editorial

Pressed against the Argentine bank of the Iguazú River within the national park's buffer zone, where morning mist rises off the water and toucans move through the canopy overhead, Awasi Iguazú solves one of eco-hospitality's recurring problems — how to place a hotel in a landscape this charged without diminishing it. The answer, arrived at through a cluster of just fourteen private villas dispersed through native Atlantic Forest, is to make the architecture nearly invisible. Dark-painted corrugated metal rooflines sit below the tree canopy rather than above it, and the cobbled arrival court gives way to vegetation so dense that the buildings dissolve into the forest within twenty metres. Inside, the villas work a different register entirely — whitewashed timber-frame ceilings with exposed A-frame trusses, wide-plank hardwood floors, and an earthy palette of natural linen, terracotta throws, and unfinished wood joinery that keeps the rooms feeling more like carefully considered private houses than hotel accommodation. The main deck, cantilevered over the forest edge on darkened hardwood posts with teak furniture and slatted lanterns, extends the building into the canopy at dusk in a way that collapses the boundary between interior and exterior. Private viewing platforms push even further out over the riverbank — a pair of folding chairs on a timber deck, mist rolling off the Iguazú below, the falls audible but not yet visible — which is precisely the tension the property was designed to hold.

"Best place I’ve ever stayed!!! The entire staff is wonderful and accommodating! The bartender Santiago is THE BEST! As well as Lalo and Lucas! and wait staff are perfect. Our Vegan friend they accommodated for! Our guides Mauricio and Joaquin were the absolute best!!! They took us to all the best spots in Iguazu Falls. Early access to the park changes the entire experience! The villas are boutique, private and serene. Clean and tidy at every moment. You’re surrounded by sounds of the jungle. I would 💯 stay at any Awasi location! I’m hooked! 💚💚💚💚💚💚"

"We had an unforgettable stay at Awasi Iguazu - truly one of the most special places we’ve ever experienced. The resort itself is stunning. It’s beautifully immersed in nature, with villas that are both spacious and incredibly comfortable. The design strikes a perfect balance between contemporary luxury and a thoughtful homage to the local culture, which made it feel unique rather than generic. The food was exceptional, especially the dinners. Each night felt like a Michelin-star-level experience — creative, beautifully presented, and completely different from the night before. It’s rare to find that level of consistency and originality over multiple days. What really set Awasi apart, though, was the service and the curated excursions. Our guide, Mauricio (“Mauri”), was outstanding. His knowledge of the wildlife, history, and local culture brought every outing to life. He didn’t just guide us - he elevated the entire experience. Visiting Iguazú Falls and the Paraná River with him made those moments even more memorable. His enthusiasm and energy were genuinely infectious. The service across the hotel was second to none. Every member of staff was warm, kind, and genuinely hospitable. Despite being a luxury property, there was nothing stiff or overly formal - just authentic, thoughtful service with incredible attention to detail. A special thank you to the management team - Camilla, Deb, and Emilio - who went above and beyond to accommodate our many requests. We’ve been fortunate to stay at some of the best hotels in the world, including Aman properties, and the level of care and personalization here exceeded even those experiences. Awasi Iguazu is something truly special. We would return in a heartbeat."
