PB hotel design editorial

That oversized neon cobra coiled above the entrance porte-cochère tells you immediately what kind of hotel this is — one that wants to be noticed, and has the architecture to back it up. Emporium Hotel South Bank, which opened in 2018 across the river from Brisbane's CBD, was designed by cottee parker architects and rises eighteen floors above Grey Street, its curved dark-glass facade wrapped in a perforated screen that gives the tower a jewelled density at night. The property holds 142 suites — no standard rooms, a deliberate positioning decision — with interiors by Luchetti Krelle that draw on a palette of warm champagne, soft taupe, and burnished gold. Floor-to-ceiling glazing in the upper rooms frames the Brisbane River and the city skyline beyond, while heavily channelled upholstered bedheads, sculptural gilt-framed mirrors, and botanical wallpaper panels in silver and grey give each space a considered residential weight. The rooftop levels are where the building earns its ambition. An infinity pool reflects the CBD skyline in still water, flanked by a timber-screened pool pavilion with deep louvred eaves and clustered palms that push back against the tower's urban slickness. One level up, the Eleven Rooftop Bar extends across a glass-canopied terrace furnished with quilted sage tub chairs and shearling-covered bar stools, mirrored ceilings multiplying the sky overhead. The effect through the whole property is closer to a high-gloss residential tower than a conventional hotel — a deliberate tension that South Bank, Brisbane's cultural precinct, handles surprisingly well.

Emporium Hotel South Bank Reviews

"Love this hotel but disappointed with breakfast set up, last visit we enjoyed breakfast on deck 21 but this time breakfast only available on level one. We had to make our way through people waiting for take away coffees to access the breakfast room which was so noisy and certainly not the peaceful atmosphere of the upper deck. The breakfast menu is very poor for $45 per person."

"We recently visited The Emporium over the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and it was truly a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, everything felt special. A huge thank you to Nelson and Juanjo, who went above and beyond to make our evening unforgettable. Their attention to detail, warmth, and exceptional service really stood out and made the night incredibly memorable. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such an important occasion. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!"

"Everybody was lovely. We had been staying at The Rydges for over 20 years because of the accessibility and the great staff and when Nathaniel (chief concierge) told us that he had moved up to The Emporium Southbank we promised him we would try it because he has always looked after us so well and he has looked after us for a number of years, well over a decade, probably closer to two. I (Jason Borys) have cerebral palsy quadriplegia and am confined to a very large powered wheelchair and as is the case when you have high support needs travelling can be anxiety provoking and stressful particularly when staying somewhere new for the first time so quite often I stay home but Nathaniel has always made sure that I was well looked after and any requests I made, whether it be for a wheelchair fitting or if anyone visiting us like a therapist could park for as long as they like for free, nothing has ever been too much trouble and that continued to be the case from the moment we arrived from the whole Emporium team. From the moment we arrived on Friday morning, Will and Mark (concierge) were so accommodating as Nathaniel wasn't starting until the evening, we were taken to our room straight away and the legs I had to raise the bed were added to the maintenance list straight away. They were placed under the bed by the time we returned to the hotel in the late evening. When we entered the room there was a lovely note from staff welcoming us offering any assistance they could, the note was accompanied by a delicious plate of chocolate strawberries which were much nicer and certainly more delicious than my usual cracker biscuits and water: ( " which usually follows my medication. Upon checkout all the staff were so kind, clearly Nathaniel had told everyone we were coming and they feigned disappointment that we were checking out which was very kind. As I said travelling with a physical disability isn't easy at the best of times but the whole Emporium team made us feel at home from the moment we checked in to when we checked out. Tom and Nelson went above and beyond at checkout retrieving our luggage very quickly and fetching our car straight away, they even removed the bollards so mum could easily turn around. Little things like that may seem like nothing but when you are travelling with a disability ot any kind little things like that make a huge difference not only tor the person with the disability but those travelling with them as mum (Dianne Davey) always does with me. We also met Andy from security and even though he hadn't started his shift yet, he knew we were coming as he made his way over to where mum and I were talking with Nathaniel to introduce himself. We can't wait to book again and look forward to our next stay. We have definitely found our home away from home when staying in Brisbane. I know Nathaniel hadn't long moved to The Emporium to take on his new position as Assistant Manager and we have no doubt he will be a huge asset, not only to The Emporium team but any guests who choose to stay at The Emporium Southbank."

"The service was on.... from arrival to the surprise Champaign G.H. Mumm sitting on our personal bar when we walked in to our room, 180 degree views the feeling was relax and unwind, bath overlooking the city watching the flight come and go from the balcony feeling like were a million miles away. We enjoyed our stay with Emporium for a weekend away living in the hotel by the pool and Terrace roof top. Douglas and his fast moved pace around serving drinks and making sure we are ok or was it Andrew from Sussex with his English accent moving chairs around to ensure we all had a great city view. All the staff were quick for a chat or banter as we had a few drink and made our bit of fun in the Sunday session listing too Enesi Salu play his beats and get us all involved. Excellent weekend we have found our new get away........"
