PB hotel design editorial

At 77 storeys and 243 metres, the tower that houses Peppers Soul Surfers Paradise was, on completion in 2008, the tallest residential building in Australia — a distinction that clarifies the scale of ambition behind a project designed by Cottee Parker Architects for developer Raptis Group. The tapered glass form rises from the Surfers Paradise beachfront in a single aerodynamic gesture, its blue-tinted curtain wall catching the Pacific light differently at every hour, the illuminated Soul logotype at the crown visible from kilometres down the coast. What the tower proposed — and what the hotel, fitted across the lower floors of the mixed-use development, attempts to honour — is a version of Gold Coast resort living calibrated toward restraint rather than the strip's habitual maximalism. The interiors carry that ambition with varying conviction. Guest rooms are configured as full apartments, their palettes running to warm ivory, sand, and taupe — linen-upholstered bedheads framed in dark-stained timber, white lacquered bedside tables, loop-pile carpet in natural tones — with floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors opening onto Coral Sea views that do most of the design work. The podium-level pool deck, laid in textured limestone pavers and shaded by tensile fabric canopies in cobalt blue, frames the ocean across a glass balustrade in a composition that feels genuinely considered. The ground-floor restaurant, enclosed in a full-height glass envelope with living green walls and mosaic-topped communal tables, brings a lighter, more contemporary energy to the base of a tower that wears its civic ambition plainly.

"Amazing stay at Peppers Soul during my work trip. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was beautiful and comfortable, and the cleanliness was outstanding. Everything exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend and would happily stay again!"

"The location is excellent and Valentina restaurant. The hygiene is not so good. Room was dated carpets need updating. Bathroom and washing machine have mould. Beds uncomfortable pillows too high. Not worth the month for the Skyview 3 bedroom at all. I am cancelling Accor membership. No mini bar no water or even soup for shoes. Dryer didn't work and leaking. After months of saving and planning for my daughter's 16th massive disappointed with we stayed at Meriot."

"Hi I would like to put down that the experience my family had at the breakfast buffet at peppers soul was fantastic yesterday morning but it was far from the truth. It seemed that the staff and management of the restaurant had other things on there minds. may be putting on a big function for the air show that day.. But when you have guest's that pay for breakfast they also should be accommodated. I asked for eggs Benedict the answer I got back from a staff member they had no hollandaise sauce... I was not the only guest that wanted eggs Benedict and yes the same response was given.. I would of thought hollandaise sauce would of been one of the easiest sauces to make for one of there chefs especially at breakfast time... And considering the price of the buffet has increased and the way they have changed the set up of the breakfast from when we visited last year... Last time we were given a menu to pick what way we wanted our eggs cooked then the order was taken straight away now you have to ask a staff member. I did question why, they answered this is the new set up.. It seems to me they have cheapened the set up and charging more for less.. By the way I have never posted a negative review about a hotel but the breakfast was not cheap and I am just an every day worker from the Bush..."

"Great view & nice apartment We stayed here for 5 nights and we loved it very much! First of all we got to thank the hotel for upgrading us to the 2 room sky view on 59th floor having the full seaview of the surfers paradise! The apartment is modern & cosy with daily cleaned. And kitchen is fully equipped. Location is the best with shops and restaurants just next to the hotel. The lobby is so nicely decorated & cosy. Really enjoyed our stay Will definitely choose this hotel if we return !"

"We have stayed at the other Peppers before. We stayed here this time as the last one was luxurious, albeit a bit expensive. The location is very good, right next to the beach and the shops. They have lots of covered car parking, unlike many other hotels here. Sadly the reception is on the 1st floor (not the ground floor). They really need a permanent staff here. It becomes bedlam when checking in our out. Especially checking out. You need the keycard to get out of the car park. Then you park here and walk up the steps to check out. We got abused by a truck driver (I mean really abused) for stopping in their property, while checking out. The room was spacious and nice with a good lookout. The lifts were fine at all times, except checkout. They need to bar the cleaners with their equipment from using the lift at checkout time. We just had to hop in the lift and go up and down twice before being able to hop out where we wanted. Otherwise we would have waited for hours. The only other negative was that the shower head was too loose and really needs fixing. You could wash your feet or the ceiling, it wouldn't lock in any other position. We would definitely stay here. So far,. its the best around GC."
