PB hotel design editorial

At 77 storeys and 243 metres, the tower that houses Peppers Soul Surfers Paradise was, on completion in 2008, the tallest residential building in Australia — a distinction that clarifies the scale of ambition behind a project designed by Cottee Parker Architects for developer Raptis Group. The tapered glass form rises from the Surfers Paradise beachfront in a single aerodynamic gesture, its blue-tinted curtain wall catching the Pacific light differently at every hour, the illuminated Soul logotype at the crown visible from kilometres down the coast. What the tower proposed — and what the hotel, fitted across the lower floors of the mixed-use development, attempts to honour — is a version of Gold Coast resort living calibrated toward restraint rather than the strip's habitual maximalism. The interiors carry that ambition with varying conviction. Guest rooms are configured as full apartments, their palettes running to warm ivory, sand, and taupe — linen-upholstered bedheads framed in dark-stained timber, white lacquered bedside tables, loop-pile carpet in natural tones — with floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors opening onto Coral Sea views that do most of the design work. The podium-level pool deck, laid in textured limestone pavers and shaded by tensile fabric canopies in cobalt blue, frames the ocean across a glass balustrade in a composition that feels genuinely considered. The ground-floor restaurant, enclosed in a full-height glass envelope with living green walls and mosaic-topped communal tables, brings a lighter, more contemporary energy to the base of a tower that wears its civic ambition plainly.

"Absolutely appalling! Forking out $1500 for two nights and getting this kind of service is a slap in the face. The balcony door seals were completely gone, letting the wind howl like a banshee, robbing us of two nights of sleep. We informed reception, who then called in maintenance, only to be told the seals were “buggered” and couldn’t be fixed that night. Another night of torment ensued. And don’t get me started on the broken glass in the foyer. We reported it, expecting it to be cleaned up promptly, but hours later, it was still there. We had to risk injury to pick it up ourselves. This is unacceptable! Should have stayed at the Langham."

"Everything was fine except the horrible whistling noise coming through the apartment. The only way to stop it was to partially open the lounge - main bedroom and second bedroom sliding doors and then of course the aircon did not work properly. It was either that or get no sleep all night from the horrible loud high pitched whistling sound. We asked all the other guests that we saw and they all said the same. Paid nearly $2 k for 3 nights for this to get no sleep - no aircon and no quiet peace. You would think that being the case that the building is on the beach facing open ocean that they would make sure that the building was sealed properly so the wind would jot whistle through possible areas in the doors. Not the relaxing holiday I expected."

"Our family recently stayed at Peppers Soul, Surfers Paradise in a 3 Bedroom Sky View Apartment (Room 5501), and it was absolutely fantastic. Opening the door and seeing an apartment that looked exactly like the photos online was such a great start to our holiday. The space was beautiful, spotless, and the views were simply breathtaking from every room. We were travelling with young children and grandparents, and the apartment layout and location couldn’t have been more perfect for a family getaway. Each bedroom was lovely, comfortable, and had its own incredible outlook. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, and having a full laundry—complete with washing machine and dryer—made life so much easier for beach towels and swimmers. The staff were outstanding from the moment we arrived. The concierge team happily took our bags before check‑in, and every interaction with reception was warm, friendly, and genuinely helpful. We requested extra towels daily, and housekeeping always delivered them quickly with a smile. Breakfast each morning at Hyde Paradiso was a highlight. The food was fresh, delicious, and offered a great variety—and of course, the views were spectacular. Honestly, every part of this hotel seems designed to make the most of the coastline, and it made leaving at the end of our stay very hard! We truly have nothing negative to say about Peppers Soul and would highly recommend it to anyone, especially families. We’re already planning our next visit. A huge thank you to everyone at Peppers Soul for making our stay so wonderful."

"We just got home and I needed to write a review. We stayed here as our family of 4 in an ocean view 2 bedroom apartment and it was everything we could’ve asked for. Rooms were very spacious, aircon was great during the very humid days, kitchen was full of everything we needed, kids loved the icy cold filter water from fridge tap, laundry facilities in room were great, the cleaners came daily and when they made the kids beds they rearranged their Teddys different every day and the kids loved it. Such a great location to the beach, weekend markets, restaurants and shops (Woolies 300m) . Will definitely be back here again."

"I have to be honest here, before arriving at Peppers Soul I was getting a little nervous about our stay because of reviews I was reading online…Im so glad I ignored them and continued with our booking! I feel bad because i feel like those who have had a negative experience are more apt to fill out a review and those of us who had amazing experiences aren’t. I truly can’t list one negative thing about our entire stay. Check-in: we arrived early and our room was ready. The front desk staff were incredibly welcoming. On arrival to our room, a staff member came with a complimentary bottle of wine and adorable box of chocolates to welcome us. Room: we stayed in room 5505. Just wow!!!! It was a three bedroom, 2 bath suite facing the north so we had complete views of the ocean as well as the mountains. Very clean and the furniture was not outdated. Kitchen was well stocked and there was a washer and dryer which was supplied with laundry detergent which we greatly appreciated so we could freshen up our clothes before moving on with our holiday. Housekeeping: so sweet!! We were there for 4 nights so you don’t get a FULL refresh which basically means they don’t clean your floors. They still came everyday and empty the rubbish bins, made the beds, cleaned the bathroom and left fresh towels. I noticed complaints about them coming later in the afternoon. Well of course they do because with such a huge building and needing to be ready for the new guests checking in, they need to get to those rooms first. They were to us every day by 3pm. We called downstairs the first day asking for some more face clothes and they were brought up to us within 5 minutes. Elevators: I noticed complaints about long waits for the elevators. Yes, there are 3 for the higher floors but we never waited longer than a minute. The only time we requested an elevator and someone was on it and we couldn’t fit was when we were checking out because it was check out time and everyone else was as well. We just hit the button again and another elevator came within 45 seconds. Pool Area: GORGEOUS!!!! They have both an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. We only went to the outdoor pool though and it was incredible! You are looking right at the ocean! I guess the one negative was that we tried to order cocktails from the pool bar but the very nice girl said that they hadn’t received their shipment so we were basically limited to beer and a small selection of wine. Location, location, location: THE BEST IN SURFERS!!! You truly can’t beat this location. Beach RIGHT there, shops, restaurants, the tram a short walk. Thank you Peppers Soul for an incredible holiday! We will most definitely be back!"
