PB hotel design editorial

Few hotels on the Gold Coast carry their era as confidently as QT Gold Coast — a brutalist tower on Surfers Paradise beachfront whose cylindrical balcony fins and white precast concrete frame announce its late-1960s origins before you're close enough to read the signage. The building, originally constructed as the Chevron Hotel and later operating as the Crowne Plaza, was reimagined under the QT Hotels & Resorts brand with interiors directed by Nic Graham & Associates, the Sydney-based studio responsible for the chain's signature approach: irreverent, pop-inflected, locally anchored. The 298-room property rises across 20-plus floors, the scalloped facade giving each level a rhythmic overhang that filters the Queensland sun while lending the tower its immediately recognisable silhouette against the Pacific. Inside, the design leans into the building's period bones rather than papering over them. Guest rooms deploy bold chevron-patterned carpets in charcoal and taupe, rattan pendant lights, and surf-culture artwork — vintage beach photography screen-printed onto linen cushions — against white-painted shiplap headboard panels that keep the palette from tipping into kitsch. The pool terrace, shot from overhead, reveals its strongest gesture: an arched pool mosaic tiled in teal and white stripes, framed by black-and-white cabana umbrellas that pull directly from 1960s Italian Riviera iconography. The restaurant continues in the same register — copper-stained coffered ceiling, olive green banquette seating, open shelving dressed with blue glass bottles — a space that manages to feel curated without feeling careful.

"The rooms and pool area were excellent, but I experienced issues with the front desk and housekeeping. The coffee machine was leaking and not replaced, the body wash was refilled with hand cream, and the return of the hair iron was not properly recorded. Additionally, I received an unexpected $250 mini bar charge. These concerns impacted what could have been a five-star weekend."

"Well located the QT Hotel is an easy walk to the beach and along the esplanade to the shops, restaurants of Surfers Paradise or to the canals. The hotel itself is quirky , clean and comfortable. We had a beach view King Room which was well appointed but the provision of just one outdoor chair on every balcony had us perplexed. We experienced a major storm on our second night and were surprised (and shocked) by the instability of the glass sliding door that shook all night and we had to resort to putting furniture against it around 2am to try and get some peace. We were staying as part of a large group and it was the same story from everyone on the beach side of the building regardless of floor. The breakfast buffet had a good selection of food, however, with the usual restaurant being renovated, the foyer alternative was not suitable for a weekend crowd as there were not enough tables or staff. Ordering omelettes was chaotic. The pool area is nice, but use of umbrellas for sun protection is restricted when it's windy - and cabanas with cover are only for reserved use of $70 per day which for the most part sat unused during our stay. Our stay was purchased through Luxury Escapes with a few bonuses and proved good value with are range of credit and vouchers to spend onsite."

"We sopent a 3 day weekend here in late February. P. The hotel istelf was busy but comfortable. Nice beachy hip vibe. The Buffet breakfast, whilst not huge on choice was tasty and well re[ared. we had drinks at the br which wa spleasant and got busy on a Saturday night, but quieter other nghts. We used the pool. Nicely located and sunny, not age and got busy but we manage dto find sunloungers. If it was warmerand less busy, this might get difficult. The room was large enough with great views. Very comfortable bed. They probaby need to do a bit with the balcony door sealing as it rattled quite noisiy in the wind, but I managed to stop it rattling by jamming in some of their hotel postcards they left in the room into teh gaps-a sealing strip would help. The bathroom was mall but functional-nice shower. The sink was very narrow and the shelf above it jutte dout too far so you hit your head if putting mouuth under teh tap top rinse out your mouth when brushing teeh. The sinkw a svery very shallow and difficult to use for shaving..minor issue really, but whoever did the deisgn and specifie dteh bathroom fittings has obviously never stayed in a hotel room. Intersting tat tehy still have a minibar-we've recently come back from the US and most hotels of a similar style have ditched them. Nice and quirky selection of drinks and snacks, but expensive. The hotel is well loacted and 1 block from the beach and a 10 minute flat walk to Cavill avenue, the heart of surfers paradise. Our package included parking which would ahve been $30/night otherwise. The carpark was reasonably busy, but we had an EV rental and it was handy having 6 EV chargers in the top level of teh carpark, so we managed to park easily in one of those spaces. The staff were very helpful and frienddly. i rented one of tehir beach criser bicycles ($10/hr...most gotels in the US just gave then free to guests) and they had ebikes as well which were a bit more expensive. We enjoyed our stay and woud stay here again if at Surfers as we prefer a hotel to one of teh myriad of hotel/aprtments in enearby buildings"

"Just want to say we couldn’t get in here for our 10 year anniversary due to conference booking the venue out. Stayed at the Langham which was hugely disappointing . One of the best things about our trip was leaving the Langham in the morning booking a cabana for our anniversary and hanging out with the QT staff for the day . Had to back to the Langham but well fed and hydrated by then . Elite day as usual thanks again"
