PB hotel design editorial

Broadbeach's most recognisable tower has anchored the Gold Coast skyline since the Jupiters Hotel and Casino complex opened in 1985, its curved white balconies stacking in a rhythm that still carries the optimism of Queensland's tourism boom era. Rebranded and substantially refurbished as The Star Grand at The Star Gold Coast following a major investment by The Star Entertainment Group, the 596-room property received a thoroughgoing interior overhaul that attempted to reconcile the building's unabashedly resort-era massing with contemporary hospitality expectations. The interiors work through a palette of warm-toned oak veneer, blue-grey geometric carpets, and textured wall panels — the guest rooms deploying sculpted white headboards with a faceted, crystalline relief against dark timber surrounds, while the suites shift to ribbed leather bedheads and brass-accented occasional furniture. In the dining spaces, the approach grows more confident: the signature restaurant deploys deep-navy velvet tub chairs against floor-to-ceiling glazing, with cloud-form acoustic ceiling discs floating above pendant clusters that nod loosely toward Tom Dixon. Outside, the generous pool terrace — shaded by navy market umbrellas and framed by mature palms — remains the property's strongest asset, the expanse of water holding its own against the tower's curved concrete presence in a way no interior renovation quite manages to match.

"Had a fantastic stay at The Star Gold Coast. From the moment we arrived the experience was excellent. Lucas at check in was incredibly friendly, welcoming and professional, which really set the tone for the stay and made the whole process smooth and easy. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable, with everything you need for a relaxing stay. We also had dinner at The Garden and the food was excellent with a great atmosphere to match. The pool area had a really good vibe as well, a perfect place to relax and unwind. Overall it was a really enjoyable stay with great service and facilities. "We had the most amazing weekend girls weekend away and could not fault a single thing. From the moment we arrived, the friendly and professional reception team made us feel so welcome — a special thank you to Sheila, Lauryn and J for their outstanding service and warm hospitality. Our room was immaculately clean, beautifully presented and the spectacular views were a real highlight. We absolutely loved the turn-down service, which added such a thoughtful and luxurious touch to the stay. Location of the precinct was perfect, we barely had to leave only we wanted to have a look around Broadbeach. They even have a little onsite shop just in case!!! The pool area was incredible and the perfect place to relax. Dining at Cucina was a standout — the food and service were amazing, and every meal was faultless. In-room dining was equally impressive, with quick service and delicious food. The Executive Lounge staff were attentive, welcoming and offered a great selection of options, making it a wonderful space to unwind. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so seamless and enjoyable. The level of care and service truly made this an amazing weekend, and we will definitely be back. Highly recommend!"

"The hotel is very well located and convenient for getting around. A great bonus is the free parking when you spend $25 at the casino or within the hotel, which made our stay even more comfortable. Housekeeping was excellent throughout our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the service was consistent every time we returned during our 5-night stay. On one occasion, we were unwell and unfortunately made a mess in the bathroom, including blocking the sink. Housekeeping responded promptly, fixed the issue straight away, and ensured everything was cleaned properly. We really appreciated how quickly they handled it. Overall, we had a very good experience and would happily stay here again."

"We chose The Star Gold coast for my Christmas stay based on its reputation as a premium hospitality brand in Australia. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a serious mistake. Apart from the luggage staff at the entrance, there was a complete absence of genuine hospitality throughout my stay. The problems began at check-in. The front desk staff member was rude and unwelcoming. When I mistakenly approached another staff member, I was abruptly told, “She can’t help you, she is busy with other job,” in a dismissive and disrespectful tone. This is not the level of professionalism expected from a flagship hotel. Service failures continued throughout the stay. I lost my smartwatch at the pool, which was later found and confirmed as mine. However, I was asked to collect it from a Lost & Found office that operates for limited hours and is inconveniently located near the parking area. Despite multiple follow-ups, the item has still not been returned. Room service was equally disappointing. When I requested a simple chicken burger for my child, I was placed on hold for nearly 10 minutes and then told that the chef would not prepare a kids’ portion and that I would need to pay more for a larger meal. The response was sarcastic and dismissive, leaving us uncomfortable and forcing us to dine outside the property. Housekeeping was inefficient and unresponsive. A basic request for a toothbrush had to be made via the app and followed up with three phone calls, only to be delivered the next day after yet another reminder. Breakfast at Harvest was chaotic and extremely poor value. Despite being charged around AUD 45 per person, the venue was overcrowded, disorganised, and poorly managed. Long queues, communication difficulties at the host desk, cluttered food stations, canned juices, cluggy borcher muesly, chipped coffee cups, and an overall lack of service made it an unpleasant experience. We also visited the dumpling restaurant on the evening of 24 December to check out menu and were met with an unwelcoming attitude, as though our presence was an inconvenience rather than valued patronage. I understand that Christmas is a busy period, but what was most concerning was the consistent frustration and lack of professionalism shown by staff across multiple areas. The size of the building and brand reputation cannot compensate for the absence of basic hospitality, training, and customer respect. This stay completely spoiled our Christmas break, and I deeply regret choosing this property. I would not recommend The Star to friends or family and will certainly not return.Sane review i will put it on Booking dot com and ask them to speak to the management .as a customer we deservw to know at least the reason and explanation ."
