PB hotel design editorial

Facing the Swan River from its position on The Esplanade, the building that houses Quay Perth presents a facade of faceted bay windows wrapped in dark anodised aluminium — a rhythm of angular glass bays stepping across the mid-rise tower that gives each room an oblique relationship with the water below. The geometry is sharp and deliberate, the black steel framing lending the exterior a weight that distinguishes it from the glass-curtain-wall commercial towers pressing in on either side. A rooftop terrace runs the full width of the upper level, visible from street level through continuous glazing. Inside, the property splits its register across two distinct moods. Guest rooms carry a Scandinavian-adjacent restraint — pale timber slat headboards, strip lighting recessed behind upholstered bedheads, grey carpet, and floor-to-ceiling windows framing the city or river depending on orientation. Accent cushions in dusty blue and blush soften what might otherwise feel strictly minimal. The all-day dining space works in warm-toned oak, vertical timber batten screens punctuated by a capsule-shaped aperture that frames the open kitchen beyond — a device that creates depth without enclosure. The hotel's bar and restaurant takes a harder industrial turn: reclaimed timber wall cladding, exposed brick columns, chain-hung pendant lights and buttoned banquette seating in charcoal wool, the atmosphere closer to a converted warehouse than a hotel dining room. The tonal gap between those two spaces is wide, but each is well-resolved on its own terms.

"Very good location, very clean, friendly staff."

"The hotel was really nice. Quite new and modern with a small cafe downstairs. The restaurant upstairs was nice, with a good view and great proximity to the office. Staff were friendly too. Check in & out was easy. Room was not massive but more than adequate for business travel. My husband even came along for the trip and he found the hotel great. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We didn't hear any noise from other rooms. I had to call reception for them to send up an ironing board and iron but can't be too upset if that was my only issue. The company was happy with the price."

"We were very happy with all the staff at Quay Perth Hotel. The location is perfect, close to shopping and restaurants. The view we had from our 7th floor over the Quay was beautiful. Our room was more than we expected, large, very clean, the bed and pillows very comfortable. Once inside our room, we heard no noise from the hotel or road. I found the price reasonable, taking in the location and our view. We had dinner upstairs and found the view, food and drinks good. Breakfast in the lobby cafe was delicious and reasonable priced. Bit noisy due to the all the office workers coming in to get take-away. Would stay at the Quay again when in Perth."

"Great hotel with very comfortable and spotless rooms. Service was top class with a friendly and efficient check in. We had access to our room early as soon as it had been cleaned. The rooftop restaurant was very good, great happy hour and Korean fusion menu which was plentiful and delicious. Breakfast was very good, good menu and great coffee. This hotel has a vibrant yet relaxing atmosphere, busy but very efficient. Location is great with access directly across the road to Elizabeth Quay and a three minute walk to the train station. Will definitely stay again."

"Beautiful hotel in a great position. The staff were wonderful, very welcoming and helpful. We had a standard room for a quick overnighter, it was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean, though a tad small for our 2 luggage pieces. Next time we will choose a larger room. The bed was super comfortable. They have a coffee shop on site which had great tasting coffee and a restaurant on the 10th floor. Will try it next time but due to jetlag this time we just collapsed in bed."
