PB hotel design editorial

Few hotel sites anywhere in the world carry the geographic pressure of this one: a narrow sandstone shelf at the foot of The Rocks, wedged between the Sydney Harbour Bridge pylons and Jørn Utzon's Opera House, with nothing but water between the building and one of the twentieth century's most recognisable silhouettes. Park Hyatt Sydney, built on this improbable strip of foreshore and completed in its current form following a major renovation in 2012, was designed to defer entirely to its setting — a low-slung, curved facade in warm sandstone that echoes the geology of the harbour escarpment behind it, stepping down to a private wharf where the city meets the water at its most elemental. The 155 rooms and suites were reinterpreted by interior design firm HBA during the renovation, the palette drawn tight around natural timbers, marble, and neutral linens that avoid competing with the harbour views framed through full-height glazing. Vertical timber battening on headboard walls, marble-topped coffee tables, and upholstered seating in sand and warm taupe establish a quietly calibrated domestic register throughout. The rooftop pool deck, with its hardwood decking, teak sun loungers, and a dark-screened pavilion housing the spa, positions Utzon's shells directly across the water as an unsolicited centrepiece. The restaurant's floor-to-ceiling harbour-facing windows, hung with faceted glass pendant clusters, complete the sense that the building's entire geometry was arranged around a single sustained act of looking outward.

"Fantastic location. Great room compared to other locations I have stayed. . The rooms are more expensive than most in the city but you get what you pay for. The staff were excellent and the valet parking is well worth it."

"We chose Park Hyatt Sydney to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday and were so pleased that we did. Our stay was nothing short of exceptional. The views are truly second to none, with breathtaking vistas across Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House and the historic Rocks precinct. Waking up to such an iconic outlook made the celebration even more special. Breakfast each morning was outstanding. The pastries were particularly memorable, and the presentation throughout was impeccable and beautifully executed. The service was warm, attentive and consistently excellent. One thoughtful touch we especially appreciated was the buzzer provided at the pool, allowing us to request service with ease. The location is simply perfect for exploring the very best of Sydney. Nestled in The Rocks, the hotel is just a stone’s throw from both the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Our room was exceptionally spacious and beautifully appointed, and the Le Labo amenities added a refined and luxurious touch. Overall, Park Hyatt Sydney offers an extraordinary combination of world-class service, unrivalled views, outstanding dining and an unbeatable location. It was the perfect place to celebrate such a special milestone, and we would return in a heartbeat."

"Room was spacious, clean, housekeeping was good , prompt services by guest services team, the food overall is good. But the hotel has many unknown hidden policies like auto checkout, paying 100% surcharge on laundry if you receive it on a Sunday though you may have given it on Saturday but the same is not clearly mentioned. They charged my personal card for a prepaid company stay without consulting or checking with me if the company payment has any issues, they never inform or consult with customers they just act. They auto checked out me in the name of auto check out after a month of stay policy without informing me to collect new keys. I had trouble to go all the way down at late night to collect keys when my previous keys did not work. Pathetic and slow at resolving customers complaint"

"This hotel is the best position in Sydney and its not one of the hideous high rise buildings. I like it how most of the staff seem to be foreigners. They are so polite and friendly. The tall and very attractive Vietnamese girl remembered us from when we stayed 2 yrs ago. It was nice of her to make us feel special. The rooms are awesome and modern. Pool is warmer this year and nice small hot spa. Its an iconic hotel and a MUST stay!"
