PB hotel design editorial

Strung along the right bank of the Salzach directly opposite the Old Town, the creamy Historicist facade of Hotel Sacher Salzburg has anchored this stretch of river promenade since 1866, its copper-green mansard roof and symmetrical fenestration holding their own against one of the most dramatic urban backdrops in Central Europe. The property is a sister to the Vienna original — that fin-de-siècle institution founded by Eduard Sacher in 1876 — and carries the family's particular conviction that grand hotel architecture should feel inherited rather than constructed, a place where continuity is the governing aesthetic principle. Inside, the rooms deploy a palette of dove grey, warm white, and ebony-stained furniture, toile de Jouy wallcovering mapping quietly across walls and upholstery in the suites, while Louis XVI-style armchairs and tufted ottomans reinforce the period register without tipping into pastiche. The Roter Salon bar moves into a richer key entirely — crimson-lacquered ceilings, deep green velvet club chairs, a black marble fireplace, and antique Persian rugs layered beneath herringbone oak flooring, the whole room carrying the atmosphere of a Viennese private library. The panelled Zirbelzimmer restaurant, clad in carved Alpine pine with coffered ceilings and mounted antler trophies above duck-egg blue plasterwork, belongs to a different and older tradition, rooting the hotel firmly in its Salzburg surroundings rather than in the imperial capital downstream.

"Sacher is a brand that guarantees great buildings in great conditions. I stayed in Vienna and now in Salzburg and both are top quality buildings and locations. We had a beautiful suite consisting of an oversized living room facing the river and an average sized bedroom. A new renovated marble bathroom with a fantastic shower cabin, made the use of the room very pleasant. Breakfast is served buffet style with many quality option. The grill restaurant with its terrace on the river is fantastic as it is its food and service. AC works very well. WIFI is poor and slow, not up to standard. Staff we encountered in housekeeping and restaurants were kind and well trained. Cannot say the same for Reception and Concierge."

"Very little can beat this hotel; location, views, comfort and service all get top marks!!! This hotel is very well located with a wonderful view of the area. We had a suite on the top floor. The breakfast was well stocked and service was superb. The rooms, even the suite, was on the small side and we don't love bathrooms with a window into the bedroom but this room seemed to take that into consideration with a curtain that blocked the view in/out of the bathroom. I also don't love when the toilet is in a separate room in the bathroom but the door is glass. Huh? Whats the point of that? Otherwise we loved the hotel, service, location and comfort. Continuously a top deluxe hotel."

"The service here is top notch. All the people are warm and friendly. Everyone was so accommodating. The hotel itself has a killer location directly by the Love Lock Bridge and you can walk directly across into the old town where the high end and couture shops and cafes are. The Mirabell Gardens are about a 5 minute walk. Breakfast is absolutely delicious. We were very happy with our stay here and would absolutely stay again!"

"Such a beautiful hotel with wonderful people and great restaurants. This was our fourth stay at the Salzburg Sacher and each time seems even better than the time before. The building and rooms are beautiful. The location is perfect. The service is impeccable. The restaurants are the best in Salzburg. At breakfast, it is so nice to be greeted by Ursula with her beautiful smile and sincere desire to accommodate every request. For dinner, the Zirblzimmer has the best and most creative dishes in Salzburg, and is the best restaurant in any of the Sacher Hotels. Zach and Rio both complemented dinner with real showmanship in presenting the dishes. The Sacher Grill is also excellent, but more low key. Such a wonderful hotel."
