PB hotel design editorial

Strung along the right bank of the Salzach directly opposite the Old Town, the creamy Historicist facade of Hotel Sacher Salzburg has anchored this stretch of river promenade since 1866, its copper-green mansard roof and symmetrical fenestration holding their own against one of the most dramatic urban backdrops in Central Europe. The property is a sister to the Vienna original — that fin-de-siècle institution founded by Eduard Sacher in 1876 — and carries the family's particular conviction that grand hotel architecture should feel inherited rather than constructed, a place where continuity is the governing aesthetic principle. Inside, the rooms deploy a palette of dove grey, warm white, and ebony-stained furniture, toile de Jouy wallcovering mapping quietly across walls and upholstery in the suites, while Louis XVI-style armchairs and tufted ottomans reinforce the period register without tipping into pastiche. The Roter Salon bar moves into a richer key entirely — crimson-lacquered ceilings, deep green velvet club chairs, a black marble fireplace, and antique Persian rugs layered beneath herringbone oak flooring, the whole room carrying the atmosphere of a Viennese private library. The panelled Zirbelzimmer restaurant, clad in carved Alpine pine with coffered ceilings and mounted antler trophies above duck-egg blue plasterwork, belongs to a different and older tradition, rooting the hotel firmly in its Salzburg surroundings rather than in the imperial capital downstream.

Hotel Sacher Salzburg Reviews

"Wonderful experience. We loved the old fashioned feel. Our room looked small but was perfectly designed. There was enough closet space even for suitcases. The bathroom had a tub and shower cubicle as well as double vanities. The compact bedroom had a free soft drink minibar and tv with basic news channels as well as a desk and small chair. Our room overlooked the river and buildings opposite. We didn’t have a balcony but we didn’t miss it. Breakfast was absolutely perfect. Ursula and her wonderful team make sure you are well fed and coffee’d up for the day. We really enjoyed grabbing a bite in the cafe which is open until early evening. Service was wonderful. Housekeepers added a fluffy mattress pad minutes after asking. Nothing was too much trouble. Though we stayed at some amazing hotels during our five week trip, the Sacher was probably our favourite. We hope to return, and really want to stay at their hotel in Vienna as well. Thank you team for an unforgettable stay."

"This was one of the most wonderful hotel stays we have ever had - everything was just perfect. Breakfast was perfect - always a lovely welcome, (Ursula every day was so kind) and the perfect spread of food, nicely presented, frequently replenished, and all very fresh. The room was really clean, the bed and pillows so comfortable. The bathroom and amenities were excellent. Also included was a complimentary soft drink and beer mini bar in the room. The only improvement we would suggest is usb sockets in the rooms. The sockets need updating. Otherwise just perfect. We ate also in zirbelzimmer restaurant which was excellent and had a few cocktails at the hotel bar. All round outstanding. And location could not be better for walking to all the sights."
