PB hotel design editorial

Directly across from the Upper Belvedere palace gardens, where Vienna's imperial heritage sits most visibly in the landscape, a new-build tower clad in pale stone and arched glazing announced a confident contemporary gesture when Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere opened in 2018. The building, designed by local architectural practice Henke Schreieck Architekten, rises seventeen floors above the third district, its facade articulated by rounded window arches that nod — without replicating — to the baroque vocabulary of the neighbourhood. A dramatically cantilevered entrance canopy, its triangulated concrete soffit supported on slender columns, pulls arrivals in from street level through planted terraces. The 303 rooms were conceived by Vienna-based studio TTAD, which threaded the city's cultural identity through the interiors using large-format wall murals printed with ghostly monochrome interpretations of Viennese architectural engravings — palace arcades, ornate ceiling panels — set against warm walnut joinery, herringbone oak floors, and mid-century-leaning furniture in cognac leather and steel blue upholstery. The rooftop bar, wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glazing, trades on its elevation: teak decking, raw timber stump tables, and suspended bird sculptures animate a space where the Ringstrasse monuments and the Prater's tree canopy stretch to the horizon on clear days. The tension between Vienna's dense historical legacy and the hotel's deliberately modern frame is never quite resolved — which is, ultimately, what makes it interesting.

Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere Reviews

"Loved our experience as a Globalist traveling with family at the Hyatt Regency Vienna. Great location adjacent to Vienna hbf, maybe a 5 minutes walk after a short train in from the airport. While the property is slightly outside of the historic city center, we found it an enjoyable walk through the Belvedere gardens (or there are frequent trams nearby). The new Globalist 'lounge' experience of served bites and drinks at the bar in the evenings was a highlight for us. Quality of the offering was far above what you'd expect from a typical 'lounge' - and became something we tried to get back for in the evenings. Breakfast was also excellent quality and variety - we especially enjoyed all hummus varieties, etc. Team went out of their way to make my wife's birthday celebration special, with balloons filling our rooms, and cake! Even just little requests, like needing toothbrushes we forgot, were filled seamlessly without asking twice. Maybe one note is that the beds were a little too firm for me (though the rest of my family slept well)."

"The check-in experience was exceptional, with the staff kindly assisting us with an upgrade to one of their higher-tier rooms. The room exceeded expectations, offering a huge layout, lush amenities, and an excellent city view. It was a refreshing experience, especially compared with many European hotels where such spacious rooms and extensive amenities can be quite rare. A truly memorable stay with outstanding hospitality."

"We had an excellent stay at the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere/Hyatt Regency Vienna. We first noticed the hotel a few years ago while visiting the Belvedere. At the time, we were staying at the historic Hotel Sacher, famous for its Sachertorte and traditional Viennese elegance. The Andaz was a complete contrast—bold, contemporary and architecturally clean. It immediately caught our attention, and I made a mental note that we should stay there someday. I am very glad we finally did. It did not disappoint. We stayed in Room 1508, which was wonderfully spacious. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the shower was fantastic. I also loved the bath products—the shampoo, conditioner and body lotion all smelled divine. One detail I particularly appreciated was the thoughtful lighting design. This is something so many beautiful hotels get wrong. When I needed to work, I could turn on the full lighting and the room became genuinely bright—bright enough to comfortably read documents and work without straining my eyes. When work was finished, another setting transformed the room with softer, ambient lighting that felt relaxing and elegant. Someone clearly thought about how guests actually live in and use a hotel room, not simply how the room photographs. The food was another highlight. We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and both were excellent, with impressive quality and variety. Most importantly, the staff throughout the hotel were terrific—warm, professional and genuinely helpful. There was one small hiccup: my pre-ordered breakfast box for a 6:30 a.m. tour was forgotten. But in the context of an otherwise excellent stay, it really wasn’t important. The Andaz/Hyatt combines beautiful contemporary architecture, excellent food, thoughtful design and genuinely good service. It is stylish without sacrificing comfort or practicality—a combination that is surprisingly difficult to achieve. I would absolutely stay at the Andaz Vienna again"
