PB hotel design editorial

Directly across from the Upper Belvedere palace gardens, where Vienna's imperial heritage sits most visibly in the landscape, a new-build tower clad in pale stone and arched glazing announced a confident contemporary gesture when Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere opened in 2018. The building, designed by local architectural practice Henke Schreieck Architekten, rises seventeen floors above the third district, its facade articulated by rounded window arches that nod — without replicating — to the baroque vocabulary of the neighbourhood. A dramatically cantilevered entrance canopy, its triangulated concrete soffit supported on slender columns, pulls arrivals in from street level through planted terraces. The 303 rooms were conceived by Vienna-based studio TTAD, which threaded the city's cultural identity through the interiors using large-format wall murals printed with ghostly monochrome interpretations of Viennese architectural engravings — palace arcades, ornate ceiling panels — set against warm walnut joinery, herringbone oak floors, and mid-century-leaning furniture in cognac leather and steel blue upholstery. The rooftop bar, wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glazing, trades on its elevation: teak decking, raw timber stump tables, and suspended bird sculptures animate a space where the Ringstrasse monuments and the Prater's tree canopy stretch to the horizon on clear days. The tension between Vienna's dense historical legacy and the hotel's deliberately modern frame is never quite resolved — which is, ultimately, what makes it interesting.

"Great location, especially if you are arriving by train. The hotel is very conveniently situated near the station, which was a big advantage for us. Our room was clean, tidy, and well equipped, including disposable toothbrushes, which we really appreciated because we had forgotten our own. We also liked that there was no noise coming from the neighboring rooms. The only issue in the room was that the bidet spray next to the toilet was not working. If you plan to sleep with the window open, keep in mind that the nearby railway tracks can be heard. On the other hand, this is exactly what makes the location so practical for train travelers. The overall stay was pleasant, although in a 5-star hotel I would have expected evening room service, such as refreshing the towels or checking whether the minibar needed replenishing."

"All of the below exceeded expectations from arrival to departure. Front Desk, Eugene Restaurant, Guest Rooms, Superlative shower pressure, Replenishing of Mini Bars, Cleanliness, Outstanding Meeting Space, Customer Service, Anticipating our Needs and smiling staff. Only improvement- be mindful of the dwindling flowers at the front desk.....Fresh Everyday-please."

"The Hyatt Andaz was an unexpected delight. The location was the only thing that I didn't love. The art in the hotel is interesting and excellent. The food was the best I had in the four days I was in Vienna. Housekeeping was excellent. The internet was strong and always worked well. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Vienna."

"Don’t be put off by this hotel not being in the centre. It’s a lovely hotel and the train and tram network are easy to navigate. Buy an online pass for unlimited travel to get around. We were there for the Christmas markets so would definitely recommend. The hotel is great with a choice of places to eat and drink. The rooftop bar has snacks, the main restaurant is fine dining and the reception bar area does burgers etc. breakfast is really expensive if you don’t get this included and due to the location there is nothing within walking distance so we went into the city to eat."
