PB hotel design editorial

Built in 1913 by Emil Ritter von Förster as the headquarters of the Anglo-Österreichische Bank, the Neoclassical palazzo on Am Hof square carries the full authority of imperial Viennese finance — rusticated stone base, pedimented roofline with sculptural relief, and a facade whose compressed ornamental program speaks directly to the Ringstrasse tradition. Park Hyatt Vienna opened within these walls in 2010 following an extensive conversion that preserved the building's monumental banking hall as the hotel's social heart, its original coffered skylight now presiding over a bar furnished with ebonized bistro chairs, full-canopy trees planted directly into the floor, and a curved central counter in dark lacquer and brass that anchors the double-height marble interior without competing with it. The 143 rooms and suites, designed by the New York studio ForrestPerkins, work a quieter register: herringbone parquet floors, deep walnut millwork with Greek key detailing at the cornices, and burgundy paisley feature walls that translate the building's Secessionist-adjacent richness into something more intimate. Tiered Bohemian crystal chandeliers and macramé-fringed floor lamps introduce contrasting textures across the room categories, while the whisky lounge — fully paneled in figured mahogany with a Siena marble chimneypiece — preserves something of the original directors' room atmosphere, the kind of space where serious conversations once had serious consequences.

About

Situated in Vienna's Goldenes Quartier, overlooking Am Hof square, this beautiful Park Hyatt property occupies a 100-year-old listed building that formerly served as the headquarters of a Bank. The hotel is located within Vienna's First District and sits within the heart of the most exclusive shopping district in Vienna, just steps away from the celebrated fashion houses. Featuring 146 spacious guestrooms, including 43 suites, Park Hyatt Vienna's guestrooms are amongst the largest in the city, ranging in size from 35 sq m to 170 sq m, brilliantly combining contemporary style with local Viennese accents. Guests will discover rare and intimate experiences tailored to meet any individual preferences. Taking pride of place in what was once the cashier hall, The Bank Brasserie & Bar has the wow factor. There is super-stylish blue velvet seating, marble walls, gold statues and two open show kitchens in which chefs create fine dishes using produce from villages near Vienna. The wine list showcases both local vineyards and international wines. The Bank Brasserie is open for daily buffet breakfast, plus a daily changing Plat du Jour and à la carte lunch and dinner. On Sundays, there’s a special Wiener Gabelfrühstück, which translates as Vienna luncheon, where small bites and tasting dishes are served at brunch and lunch time for late-risers. The Bank Bar presents specially created premium cocktails, remembering the time of the former Bank, concentrating on the human senses. Accessible from the hotel lobby as well as through a separate entrance, the authentic coffeehouse, named Café Am Hof, is a modern venue with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a charming view out onto the Bognergasse. Serving a grand selection of homemade pastries, featuring Viennese coffee specialties as well as little snacks, Café Am Hof is the place where long-time residents meet the city’s international guests. For relaxation, guests can retreat into the tranquil sanctuary of Arany Spa and indulge in a selection of exclusive body treatments and facials. Moreover, the hotel hosts an extensive hotel fitness centre and indoor swimming pool for exercise. There are gold leaf floor tiles on the 15-metre heated indoor pool in what was once the bank’s underground vault. You’ll find a full treatment menu in The Arany Spa, plus a sauna, steam room, gym, couples’ treatment room and vitality shower room. With 24-hour room service and concierge, multilingual staff, valet parking and limousine airport transfer and a VID (Very Important Dog) service, the hotel anticipates guests’ every whim. Best of all, some of Vienna’s must-see spots are right on the doorstep, including Hofburg Palace, St Stephen’s Cathedral, the ancient Am Hof square and the Golden Quartier, the city’s pedestrianised luxury shopping district.

"I stayed at this place from 5/24-27. We had 2 rooms on family trip at Vienna. One of the room AC was not working. Next day after speaking with front desk ( Mark). He moved to different room. They also provided fan. Another room AC was fine for 2 days and last day it wasn't working. I woke up at 2 AM and spoke to Mark. He suggested to talk to the Manager. He also mentioned several rooms have AC issue and they are moving people around. Next morning I spoke to the manager( Sibbir Hossain). He said ACs are working and no issue. The fact is Mr. Sibbir didn't even have courtesy to express his apology and flat out told me ACs are working. This hit me. He is lying. I was not looking for any freebies( Breakfast, etc). I have filled a complain with Hyatt They are looking into it. Right before this place I stayed at Hyatt London. What a wonderful experince. My concern is manager's honesty. Personally, I think Mr. Sibbir is not a right person for this job. He is from Bangladesh and could have mentality that people looking for any freebies. I am not the racist. I humbly request Management to put some European honest person as the Manager."

"I stayed at Park Hyatt Vienna during a work trip and had an exceptional experience overall. From arrival through departure, the staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and eager to assist in any way they could. The level of service stood out and made a lasting impression. The room itself was spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. Although my particular room overlooked a wall and did not offer much of a view, the size of both the room and bathroom was impressive, especially for a standard room category. The bathroom in particular felt exceptionally large and elevated the overall experience.Exceptional Service and Hospitality, Minor Air Conditioning Issue Throughout my stay, the hotel maintained the level of hospitality and professionalism you would hope for from a luxury property. The service culture seemed genuine rather than transactional, which is something frequent travellers notice and appreciate. My only criticism would be the air conditioning. Either it was not functioning properly during my stay or it simply was not powerful enough, as the room remained warmer than expected. While not enough to significantly impact my overall impression, it was noticeable. Overall, I would highly recommend Park Hyatt Vienna. The attentive staff, spacious accommodations, and overall guest experience made this one of the stronger hotel stays I’ve had, and I would gladly return."

"This was my fourth stay in this hotel in Vienna, my favorite European city. What not to like? Location, pool, spa, café! This time I even tried cryo treatment in the spa. Amazing! Feels like after triple espresso, full of energy. Service was amazing -Anja at reception, concierges Martin and Stefan- thank you so much for making my stay so enjoyable! And the lady in the spa-sorry, didn't write your name- it was so fun talking to you! My only small disappointment- the tea brand has changed, and I am a tea drinker, rare exception in this coffee oriented city. Will be back!"
