PB hotel design editorial

Three neoclassical palaces on Schubertring, dating from the late nineteenth century and forming part of the grand Ringstrasse development that Emperor Franz Joseph commissioned to remake Vienna's civic face, were merged and converted into The Ritz-Carlton Vienna when the hotel opened in 2012. The facade visible in the images tells that history plainly — rusticated stone at the base, piano nobile windows framed by pilasters and entablature, a cornice line that asserts its Historicist credentials without apology. The 202-room property spans six floors and was converted by Auer Weber Architekten, with interiors handled by the Italian studio Randa Randa. Inside, two distinct decorative registers coexist across the guest floors. Standard rooms carry a warmer, more traditional mood — botanical-patterned carpet, walnut oval coffee tables, upholstered club chairs in taupe, tall casement windows admitting the green of the Stadtpark opposite. The more recently refreshed suites move toward a spare contemporary palette: ivory linen panelling, dark herringbone parquet, brass bedside lamps with a modernist stem, a low upholstered bench in chocolate bouclé anchoring the foot of the bed. The Atmosphere restaurant below introduces a dramatically different material note — a sculpted ceiling of curved brass and timber ribs arching over red leather dining chairs and verde marble bar surfaces. The basement spa, lined in pale limestone and dark mosaic tile, extends beneath the Ringstrasse cobblestones with a full lap pool.

"I would rate this hotel a 3 on 5. 1 for Marie, 1 for Mathew and the other 1 for the gentleman at the concierge. Everyone were so warm and the hospitality was just so good. I would strongly recommend the hotel to do their renovation work as the rooms are getting old and worn out. Other than that if this doesn’t bother you then it’s a great stay ! Special shout out to Marie especially! Thank you Marie for everything and every help extended out to us."

"I don't have a single complaint about our recent stay at the Ritz in Vienna - everything was fabulous! It started with a warm champagne greeting by Nikolett in the Club Room. She was always kind and was very helpful. We also really enjoyed talking with Alejandro and Paloma in the Club Room (very helpful as well) and enjoyed the food and drink service. We enjoyed the wine tasting led by Georgios (who was also very helpful in the bar downstairs), had a nice tea service and did the special cocktail time in the D Bar downstairs with Aina (& Sophia) - 2 more wonderful people. Franchesco was our server in the restaurant downstairs twice and was delightful. While we were ready to get back home, we hated leaving this hotel - it was the best hotel experience we have had in many years! Thank you all!"

"We visited Vienna for the first time as my son was running in the marathon, and although our stay began with a few issues on the first night, what followed was one of the best examples of service recovery I’ve ever experienced. The next morning we shared our concerns with Sabrina, who immediately took ownership and reassured us she would take care of everything. When we returned later that day, both of our rooms had been upgraded, and we were welcomed with flowers, gifts and chocolates — a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the rest of our stay. From that moment on, the service was nothing short of exceptional. For the next four days, every member of the team went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Before we even arrived, Oscar reached out with dining suggestions. We told him the kind of atmosphere we were hoping for, and every reservation he made was absolutely perfect — each one added something special to what became a fantastic five days in Vienna. Jasper, Sabrina and Oscar consistently went above and beyond, and their warmth and professionalism truly elevated our experience. After the marathon, we enjoyed rooftop cocktails where Iana (F&B Supervisor) took wonderful care of us. Her attentiveness and genuine hospitality made the evening feel celebratory and memorable. She is a real asset to The Ritz‑Carlton. All in all, I genuinely cannot remember the last time I received such consistently excellent service from such a dedicated and passionate team. We left with nothing but gratitude — and we are already looking forward to returning."
