PB hotel design editorial

Forty acres of northern Eleuthera, pinched between two private white-sand coves with the Atlantic on one side and calm turquoise water on the other, gives The Cove Eleuthera a site that most resort designers would simply step aside and let speak. To their credit, Gluckman Tang Architects and BAR Architects & Interiors, who completed a comprehensive renovation in November 2024, largely did exactly that. The 22 bungalow suites and villas sit low in the landscape, their white-painted timber cladding and pitched rooflines drawing from the vernacular of traditional Bahamian cottage building without reproducing it literally. The infinity pool deck extends toward the water on hardwood planking, white cantilever umbrellas aligned with a precision that feels more Côte d'Azur than Caribbean, the rocky limestone headland framing the view beyond. Inside, BAR's interiors work from a palette sourced directly from the island itself: the bleached grey of driftwood, the warm cream of local limestone, the washed blue of shallow reef water. Tongue-and-groove ceilings painted white run through both the guest suites and the Freedom Restaurant, where pale teak banquettes, chunky hand-formed pendant lights wrapped in trailing greenery, and louvered shutters diffusing afternoon light give the dining room the relaxed atmosphere of a well-appointed beach house. Rattan armchairs, slatted timber headboards, and textured bouclé upholstery carry the material consistency across every room. The property holds a Michelin Key and remains the only Relais & Châteaux member in the Bahamas, distinctions that sit lightly on something this unpretentious.

"Yikes! I hate to even give anything a bad review when this cost us so much and the views were beautiful, but at this price point, I want to help other people who are looking to book a great place! We came to The Cove for our honeymoon. The views are fabulous, staff was very kind, and the rooms were nice and cool, this place has genuine beauty and real potential. Captains Chad and First Mate Oral prove that exceptional hospitality is possible here. It felt that staff training needs to be improved and that there is lack of funding to make this place a real luxury retreat. Until the basics are consistent, it's hard to recommend at this price for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. The staff seemed genuinely confused and so did most of the guests. I heard many guests ask how the breakfast worked, where the happy hour bar was, how to get their umbrellas up, and we had to ask so many times for towels (there were none more times than not) and had to get out of the pool and go inside the restaurant wet in our bathingsuit (which felt awkward) everytime we needed a drink. while the staff were all very friendly and nice - this place is not worth the price at all. I hate so say this, but I regret going here! we are usually such Relaix & Chateux stans, and i literally chose this resort based on that and it was just not it."

"First time staying at this resort. The grounds are immaculate and perfectly manicured. Truly breathtaking and spared no expense. The beach front villas were a standout, new, clean, and with all the amenities we needed. We loved being able to sit on the deck at night and walk strait to the beach. The food was good. Lunch was definitely the standout and they were previewing a new menu when we arrived which was phenomenal, I wish they served this the entire time. Dinner was average if I am being honest. The sushi was good as was the dinner menu but I just wasn’t wowed by it. The two beaches were the highlight and there were a lot of activities to choose from. The waters were calm most of our trip and we got to see sea turtles. The main pool was nice but it was somewhat windy (less than 20 mph) when we arrived and my wife got yelled at for trying to open the umbrellas. We could not be in the sun for long so this made the pool unusable for us. This was also interesting as the deck was covered in heavy duty Tuuci umbrellas and should have been able to hold up in a light breeze. The service was really good, especially the hostess and restaurant severs. The beach service was hit or miss. If there had been more folks serving the beaches, I would have probably spent at least another $1000 on drinks. The security here is also top notch and the gate is monitored 24x7. Upon checkout management did go the extra mile to ensure we had a good experience. Overall highly recommend and will definitely be back. The best hotel I have stayed at in The Bahamas."

"We celebrated our anniversary there, and it was truly unforgettable. We couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place for such a special occasion. The hotel is absolutely stunning, it almost looks too beautiful to be real. The staff were exceptionally kind and attentive, and the sushi was outstanding; we loved it so much that we enjoyed it every evening. The view from our bedroom was breathtaking and felt almost unreal. Everything was so peaceful and beautiful that it felt like heaven on earth. We can’t wait to return."
