PB hotel design editorial

At the western end of the $4.2 billion Baha Mar resort complex on Nassau's Cable Beach — a development that remade an entire stretch of New Providence coastline when it opened in 2017 — Rosewood Baha Mar was always the property charged with carrying the highest design ambitions of the project. Configured across 237 rooms and suites spread through low-rise villa buildings and a main tower, the hotel drew on the work of interior designer Champalimaud Design to translate a specifically Caribbean colonial grammar into something warmer and more personal than the grand-resort typology usually allows. The images confirm the success of that translation. A circular open-air bar pavilion — louvred clerestory panels wrapping a conical roof, the whole structure ringed by still water — achieves the easy indoor-outdoor threshold that is the defining problem of tropical hospitality architecture, here solved with particular elegance. Inside, two distinct room registers emerge: one playing dark-stained four-poster seagrass frames against botanical print drapery and whitewashed tongue-and-groove ceilings; the other deploying ebonised steel canopy beds, woven rattan pendant lights, and circular teal artwork above cream panelled walls, with wrought-iron balcony balustrades filtering the view toward the bay. A restaurant interior brings Portuguese-inflected encaustic tile floors, a curved brass bar counter beneath sculpted fabric ceiling baffles, and rattan seating into a room that feels closer to a well-travelled private collector's dining room than to resort food-and-beverage.

"This was our second trip to the Rosewood BahaMar. It never disappoints. Just gets better. We didn’t choose a suite this time but asked to say hi to out butter from last year. He is the most fabulous butler you can meet. He is not only fabulous and great at his job but he is so personable kind and friendly he’s just the best. He cares about each of his customers greatly. If you head to the manor bar you’ll run into fluffy what a nice man. He met us because we did not know what to do for lunch so he escorted us to the swimming pig. Great choice but never forgot us. Wherever he saw us he had a friendly hi and wanted to know what we needed so we decided to stop at his manor bar for a drink before diner not something we would normally do but fluffy made it perfect. He even offered a special desert after dinner. At the po if you are lucky you will run into the lifeguard Warren who has a love for dogs especially long haired frenchys but just Mention dogs and he’s in. If you love dogs you’re a nice person It was fun discussing dogs with him. In the morning Cafe Boullard waiter kenwood will start your day off with a lovely smile and nice convo. Does it sound like I loved it? Yes and I’m not even discussing dinners Marcus is A1 get the lamb chops Leola very good the sea bass was late you would think they did something terrible they wanted to make up for their error over and over again to the point of we’re fine. They’re just great! It’s ok. Cleo another favorite! I mean let’s face it nothing was bad. Oh the water park! Incredible. If we were younger or had young kids with us omg incredible but us old enjoyed the lazy river. Enough excitement lol. Amazing what they offer for free for staying at any of the hotels. I can’t miss saying go see the flamingos and see their parade at 9:30 am young or old you will love it! Rosewood is elegant!"

"I have stayed at the Rosewood three times within the last twelve months. This resort is by far the best place I've ever stayed. The environment at rosewood is amazing, the forestry in the resort makes it feel so comfortable and like you are at home. I always feel like it's coming back to my second home, it doesn't feel like just another resort. Between the staff like Crystal and Ricardo at the front desk to our butlers, Shamika, Christnell and Sylanvio the staff was beyond exceptional. The staff at the pool was always amazing, they remember us and welcome us every time we come back. They are so attentive and helpful. We would like to acknowledge our pool staff as well, Tehran, Anthony, DJ, D'Angelo, George, Charles, Jason, Dimetrio and Dominic. All of these staff were so important to making our stay specular as usual. We will continue to come back as often as possible. Thank you so much for a beautiful, stress free stay."

"Just absolutely gorgeous space, both inside and out. Grounds were absolutely beautiful As others have mentioned, this is a luxury property and costs associated with everything are high Would absolutely stay again if given the opportunity. Pools were not crowded, could always find a chair at both beach and pools."

"I don’t think I’ve ever felt as nervous about a trip as I did in the run-up to our stay at the Rosewood Baha Mar. That anxiety stemmed entirely from the many negative TripAdvisor reviews I kept reading. Like many others, we’ve stayed at several other Rosewood properties in the past (such as Little Dix Bay and Rosewood London), so I booked this one with very little additional research, such is my trust in the brand. When I discovered the negative feedback, I became seriously worried that we were going to hate it. Bottom line: It was nowhere near as bad as I feared. However, you do need to go in with your eyes wide open. This is part of the large Baha Mar complex—it’s a big hotel physically connected to two other large hotels, so you won’t get any boutique hotel feel. That said, it’s still a solid 5-star property, and many things exceeded our (admittedly quite low) expectations. For example, the pool service was excellent. We could always get a sunbed, staff would promptly bring towels and set us up, and there was plenty of water and sunscreen available. The pool menu and drinks were also very good. Overall, it delivered a typical high-end 5-star pool experience. As others have noted, the hotel itself is beautifully presented, and we had no issues with our room. The staff were generally helpful and pleasant. Restaurants: You definitely need to book ahead for dinner. As long as you do, there’s little to complain about other than the cost. And that’s the second thing to be aware of— Baha Mar is a very expensive resort. If you hate feeling ripped off, the prices here may be quite distracting, as they aren’t always justifiable. That said, we enjoyed most of the restaurants we tried. The only disappointment was Costa, which was a below-average Mexican. Carne delivered excellent steaks, and we particularly liked the Chinese restaurant, Shuang Ba. However, while both were very good, neither was the best we’ve ever had — just among the most expensive. Overall, I felt a huge sense of relief when we stayed here because I was convinced we would hate it. We actually had a great time, and I would stay here again for the fun atmosphere, the pool/ beach, and the dining options."

"Overall, a very disappointing experience. I was mistakenly expecting Four Seasons “like” quality re the physical aspects of the hotel and the service. However and disappointingly, the property is very tired with stained and dirty carpets, chipped paint and old bathroom towels. The service level and food good quality were perhaps the greatest disappointments. The food was poor and the service was indescribably poor. For one meal, we wait almost 90 minutes for our food to arrive (there were 4 of us). I have no issue paying for quality however this is very disappointing and I feel grossly overpromised and under delivered. The Rosewood Nassau is not a luxury experience, by any measure."
