PB hotel design editorial

Fifty metres from the Grand Place, on the site where Brussels once kept its city prison — amigo being a Flemish corruption of the Spanish word for the holding cell installed during Habsburg rule — the building that now houses Hotel Amigo was constructed in 1958 in a Flemish Renaissance style, its stepped gables and warm red brick facade designed to hold its own against the gilded theatrics of the square next door. The seven-storey structure manages that adjacency with confidence: from the images, the corbelled dormers and white-stone string courses carry exactly the authority the location demands, without tipping into pastiche. Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte's director of design and the creative force behind the group's most coherent interiors, oversaw the scheme with her characteristic layering of antique furniture, fine art, and upholstered comfort. The 173 rooms draw on a palette of deep crimson and warm amber — the bedroom images show four-poster beds with turned finials, damask headboards in scarlet and gold, and glazed chinoiserie nightstands sitting alongside framed portrait drawings that recur throughout the property as a curatorial thread. The lounge deploys deep-buttoned velvet armchairs in burnt orange against dark parquet, while the restaurant wraps its banquette seating in teal-lacquered walls hung with Fornasetti plates — a wry nod to Italian craft from a hotel that wears its Belgian address with equal pride.

"For location in Brussels, it’s hard to top the Hotel Amigo, which is just steps away from the Grand-Place. Despite being in such a busy and central area, the hotel feels like an oasis of quiet luxury. The staff were exceptionally warm, friendly, and attentive, consistently going above and beyond to exceed expectations throughout the stay. The deluxe room was spacious and well appointed, offering elegance and relaxation after a day exploring the city. The restaurant was another highlight, especially the excellent breakfast buffet, which provided a perfect start to each morning. Altogether, Hotel Amigo delivers a refined and welcoming experience in one of the best locations in Brussels."

"We spent 3 wonderful nights and were so happy with our choice! From the beautiful and comfortable rooms, to the delicious breakfasts daily, our expectations were far surpassed. Lily in the bar was amazing, the jazz at night so fun, and the coffee in the mornings was perfect. When back in Brussels this will be the only place I will stay."

"We stayed at the hotel for three nights while we were in Brussels and it's definitely a top choice. The location is in the middle of everything you want to see - literal steps to the Grand Place and all of those activities and then maybe a ten minute walk up to the museum campus. The staff is great from the bellmen at the front door to the team working the desk and the waitstaff at the bar. A super friendly and welcoming group of people. The rooms themseleves are quite large and worth noting is that this hotel had the best water pressure in the shower of any hotel I've ever been in - truly outstanding. This might not be the cheapest hotel in town but for a discerning guest who wants a top-notch location, this one is a winner."

"Spent 3 nights here on a business trip. Refined, old-fashioned European hotel. Just steps from Grand Place. Rooms are small but comfortable. Nice bar with live jazz on the weekends."

"I stayed four nights at the Amigo hotel in Brussels. My room was quiet and very clean and although the buffet breakfast was good I only had the same hot breakfast every morning of eggs, bacon, toast, tea and orange juice at 24 euros. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and seem to enjoy what they do. I’d like to particularly thank Rebecca and Vittoro who worked in the restaurant. The three concierge’s were very helpful as well as others at the hotel. I had three dinners at the hotel which were excellent and tasty. The hotel is located in the centre of Brussels and close to anywhere that’s worth visiting. Furthermore, the Central train station is just 8-10 minutes walk from the hotel which is convenient to go to places like Bruge, Ghent and Antwerp. Overall, I had a really good time and would highly recommend anyone to stay at the hotel."
