PB hotel design editorial

Perched on a limestone promontory above Castle Harbour on Bermuda's eastern shore, where the island's characteristic pink-rendered facades step down toward some of its most protected deepwater anchorage, Rosewood Bermuda was established on the grounds of the historic Tucker's Point Club, a site with hospitality roots reaching back to the Castle Harbour Hotel of 1931. The current five-storey structure — its pale blush stucco, white-painted balustrades, and steep slate rooflines pulled directly from the Bermudian vernacular — was developed in the mid-2000s, with 88 rooms and suites arranged to preserve harbour sightlines from nearly every balcony. The elongated pool terrace visible from above channels guests downhill toward the water in a formal axis softened by planted terracing and local limestone paving. Inside, the interiors work a coastal-colonial register that never tips into pastiche. Guest rooms pair ebonised four-poster frames and dark-stained open shelving against white beamed ceilings and textured wool carpeting in neutral grounds, the palette anchored by cobalt and turquoise accent cushions that echo the harbour beyond the French doors. The dining room deploys the same discipline — white panelled walls, brass globe chandeliers, dark walnut dining chairs with leather upholstery, and an aquamarine carpet that keeps the whole room from reading too formal. Blue-striped canvas umbrellas and cobalt cushioned loungers frame the infinity pool where it meets the Atlantic, a composition whose simplicity feels entirely confident in the landscape it was designed for.

"Currently staying here. It is a subpar experience. The location is very pretty but the service is not good. Several examples: - concierge is slow and not responsive to requests in any effective manner . Took 2 hours to respond to WhatsApp messages yesterday during the evening. - Yoga mats not available for the room. No yoga classes today. It’s Friday. One yoga class tomorrow. Fully booked. - athletic / class schedule physically listed in the hotel on a stand is completely incorrect. Not a little bit wrong, completely wrong. Sign remains posted . - took 4 phone calls to book a tennis lesson - room was not ready for early check in (1pm) despite flight times provided in advance and Amex platinum booking - prearranged hotel taxi did not show up at airport . Flight arrived 5 mins early. Took a regular one. - beach service for food estimated wait time 45 minutes and takeout from upstairs restaurant “impossible” - shuttle needed to get around the property which takes forever - Italian restaurant extremely mediocre This is just not a very impressive place"

"Overall it’s a nice place but having to get in the shuttle to go to the beach is a total buzz kill. The old elbow beach resort was so much better than this place. You could walk to everything. This resort is way overpriced because they don’t have a lot of competitors in this space. The shuttle drivers were great but always having to get on the shuttle gets really old. The pool was crowded at times. Overall not worth it."

"We spent five days at the Rosewood Bermuda, and it was exceptional. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and they clearly care about the guest experience. The facilities are excellent—well-appointed rooms, attentive housekeeping. We ate at each restaurant (Georgia in the Brasserie was a star) and food and atmosphere were wonderful. The pools, the fitness center, and the grounds were all outstanding. We'll definitely return."

"Our February stay at the Rosewood Bermuda was exceptional. The property feels wonderfully secluded, with beautifully maintained and very private grounds that make it a pleasure to explore. The standout feature of our visit was the service. Every interaction felt genuinely warm and personal. Bernie, Izzy, and Troy in particular went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The room felt fresh, refined, and thoughtfully designed, with a stunning harbor view that made it difficult to leave the balcony each morning. If there is one minor consideration, it’s the location. The resort is a bit removed from Hamilton, so factor that into plans. Overall, Rosewood Bermuda delivers a serene, and highly personalized experience. We will return."

"My husband and I booked with British Airways Holidays to spend 11 days at Rosewood over Christmas and New Year. While the standard of the accommodation was good, the overall experience was disappointing. The service level is poor, for such an expensive hotel. In particular: 1. Our harbour view room was at the bottom of the complex with 110 steps to go up to breakfast each morning. At no stage of our booking was this made clear to us - and we are both over 80 years old. The room was also quite damp and there was a cockroach in the middle of the bathroom floor one morning 2. It took 4 days of negotiating with an ever rotating reception staff to negotiate a 'complimentary' upgrade to a room in the main hotel 3. The service - and the food - in the set Afternoon Tea was appalling. We had booked a table for 4 people at 4pm the following day. The table wasn't ready and in fact never became available. It took an hour to get seated at an inferior set of small tables and a further 15 minutes to get someone to produce the sandwiches, which had clearly been made some time previously and were almost inedible. All at a cost of USD 320 for 4 people. 4. The worst part of all was finding upon our return home that my husband's credit card - which had been submitted on arrival to cover incidental expenditure - had been blocked to the tune of USD 12,000. This despite the fact that we had paid the room charge in full well before our arrival and had settled the incidental expenses upon departure. We complained that this practice had at no time been explained to us and we had certainty never agreed it. It took several hours of phone calls and exchange of emails to try and get the charges unblocked. They were finally unblocked, day by day, 11 days after our departure. 5. The final insult was that we found that our credit card had been charged USD6.00 retrospectively for a Coca Cola from the minibar in our room. This was timed at 10 hours after we had checked out. We didn't take a single item from the minibar during our entire stay. This has still not been refunded. We have submitted all these complaints to the hotel, which has hidden behind their 'systems and processes' and has made no attempt to address them. We would counsel any prospective guests to ensure that they understand the hotel's rules and regulations before deciding to book."
