PB hotel design editorial

Perched directly above Bermuda's famously blush-tinted shoreline, where volcanic rock shelves drop without ceremony into water of an almost implausible turquoise, the site that The Loren at Pink Beach claimed when it opened in 2017 had been largely dormant for years — a gap in Bermuda's hospitality landscape that no one had quite managed to fill with the right level of restraint. New York-based architect firma BKSK Architects shaped the 45-room property to follow the natural contours of the headland, stepping three floors of white-rendered terraced pavilions down toward the Atlantic in a massing that echoes the island's vernacular — those characteristic stepped limestone rooflines appearing as a contemporary reinterpretation rather than a pastiche. The pool deck is carved into the cliff edge itself, the water's surface held almost level with the ocean beyond. Inside, the interiors move between warm sand and slate tones, with wide-plank wood flooring, upholstered panel headboards framed in dark-finished steel, and abstract area rugs in washed blues and blush that quietly mirror the landscape outside each full-height balcony door. The beach club pavilion is particularly well-judged — a canvas-canopied structure with thick rope-wrapped columns, teak director's chairs, and wicker lounge seating that together achieve a relaxed maritime atmosphere without tipping into coastal cliché. Every room faces the water. Given the site, that was never going to be enough on its own — but the architecture earns it.

"The beach and snorkeling: - Beautiful private beach with good food service, excellent offshore snorkeling around the big rock and along the reef just beyond it. This was a highlight for me. - Waves are too rough for kayaking or paddleboarding, I don't know why they even have those; Multiple people, including me, lost control of the kayak trying to launch it and needed to be 'rescued'. Room: - Beautiful room, with very spacious bathroom and a usable, fully furnished (a couch and chairs) and shaded balcony. Very quiet, we did not hear any noise from the hallway or neighbors. Comfy bed. Food: - All delicious, but the menus are limited. Service was mostly very good. A showstopper for me, though, is the eurotrash music piped into the dining room, with a thumping beat that fights with the sound of the waves. I cannot believe that anyone wants to hear this, and it made me not want to be in the dining room. - Concierge team: all friendly and helpful but we were provided with mis-information multiple times and our dinner reservations were not recorded. Be forewarned to double and triple check things. - Spa: lovely massages, but the sauna was not heated, even after I reminded them three times (twice via email, and once in person) that we planned to use it. If it were not for the music in the dining room, I would definitely return. It is pricey, but I have not found this level of beauty and offshore snorkeling anywhere else, and the 2-hour direct flight really makes a difference in being able to get there for a short stay. If you want peace and tranquility, I cannot recommend the Loren. If you don't care, I say book it!"

"Amazing trip. The Loren accommodations and service were perfect. Especially poolside where Jai and the team went above and beyond. Definitely coming back soon!"

"This is a wonderful place to stay. It has a nice intimate feel to it, not too big. Customer service is wonderful. The food and cocktails are excellent. Jai, our "butler" at the pool, took especially good care of us ! Thank you Jai!"

"We had a great stay at the Loren hotel. What really made our stay unforgettable was the exceptional service. A huge, special shout-out to Jai! He was so sweet, incredibly attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our entire stay. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to just relax and enjoy our time by the water."

"Firstly, this hotel is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous, spacious and the view is stunning. The beach is also lovely, and very quiet. The service at the pool is exceptional. That is where good service ends unfortunately. The restaurant was chaotic, service was sporadic and unfriendly. We often waited a long time for food. Bearing in mind a service charge of 20% is added to every bill. Ontop of this they include a charge for their "charity organisation". This charge, or charity, was not explained to us at check-in and is added to your nightly room charge, and every bill. This felt tacky and something you wouldn't see at the Rosewood for example. The menu doesn't charge in the restaurant and it was overly expensive for portion size/quality. We had an issue with credit card charges and they were dealt with pretty poorly by reception staff. Overall, definitely wouldn't return as the negatives outweigh the positives, especially for the price. Other than the service poolside, you would expect better from a 5 star hotel. Staying at the Rosewood after the Loren further showed the gap in quality of the Loren."
