PB hotel design editorial

Pressed against the waterline at Porto Frade, with the Atlantic forest rising sharply behind and the sheltered bay of Angra dos Reis spreading out in front, the site practically demanded a building that would dissolve its own edges. Fasano Angra dos Reis, opened in 2012, was designed by São Paulo architect Isay Weinfeld — whose work for the Fasano family has defined the aesthetic of Brazilian luxury hospitality over two decades — as a low-slung composition of white concrete volumes wrapped in horizontal timber brise-soleil, the warm wood grain softening what might otherwise read as severe modernist geometry against the jungle backdrop. Weinfeld's interiors carry the restrained sensibility consistent across his Fasano commissions: natural-fibre bench seats and ochre throws in the guestrooms, warm-toned hardwood floors, and a headboard wall treatment in vertical timber slats that echoes the facade's rhythm. The restaurant ceiling layers rough-sawn timber planks in a coffered pattern that manages acoustic warmth while framing full-height glazing onto the marina. At the upper pool terrace, limestone paving and teak sun loungers dissolve into an infinity edge with the Serra do Mar mountains stacked behind — a deliberate compositional device that makes the geology of the place feel like designed scenery rather than backdrop. Throughout, the palette holds to sand, honey, and sea-glass turquoise, colours borrowed directly from the bay itself.

Fasano Angra dos Reis Reviews

335 reviews

"The hotel itself is incredibly nice , great structure, beautiful view, ample, spacious bedrooms and a great assortment of food during breakfast Although most of the workers were extremely nice , the menu had missing item throughout the week , the amenities left in the bedroom at night, although the room was occupied by a family of 3 were left for 1 person only In a couple of times , the turndown was asked if it could happen on 30’ (baby was asleep or one of the guests was in the shower) and after an affirmative answer- it did not occur Food was delicious, but took forever to be served , and as mentioned above , the same item was at fault for many days in a row (simple dishes as mini hamburgers ) At the kids place , the pool was great , but no Umbrella was offered to be protected by the sun We felt like the hotel was working on a soft opening - due to the simple and recurring mistakes - not expected by the price that was paired and the weight Fasano carries"
