PB hotel design editorial

Perforated terracotta brick screens the street-level facade on Rua Alagoas in Belo Horizonte's Lourdes neighbourhood, a quietly confident gesture that signals what Fasano Belo Horizonte is before you step inside. The building, designed by the São Paulo practice Isay Weinfeld — the architect responsible for shaping nearly the entire Fasano architectural identity, from the original São Paulo tower to the Rio beach house — rises fourteen floors in a composition that pairs that warm brick base with dark metal cladding above, the two registers separated cleanly where the massing shifts. Weinfeld's interiors follow the language he established for the brand over two decades: ipê and cumaru hardwood floors laid in wide planks, walnut-panelled headboards flush with integrated nightstands, Roman blinds filtering light into rooms that feel more like well-appointed apartments than hotel accommodation. The restaurant, named Gero as it is across the Fasano portfolio, demonstrates how consistently Weinfeld handles warmth through material rather than decoration — a slatted timber ceiling lowered over a dark bar with a black granite counter, cane-back bistro chairs pulled to oval dining tables, a long mustard banquette running the length of an exposed brick wall. The pool deck carries that same restraint outdoors: teak decking, timber-framed loungers in striped cotton, and a bamboo perimeter that filters the Lourdes skyline into something almost domestically scaled. The 81-room property, which opened in 2018, is among the most coherent expressions of the Fasano formula outside São Paulo.

"We recently stayed at Fasano Belo Horizonte, and while the hotel has potential, our experience was a mix of highs and lows — with one standout highlight: Lidia. If it weren’t for her, our stay would have been a completely different story. She recommended incredible restaurants, curated amazing experiences for us, and even went out of her way to help us get a taxi when no one else could. She truly made us feel at home — Lidia is a star and deserves all the recognition in the world. That said, coming from a hospitality background myself, I was surprised by a few things. The front office team, aside from Alice who was fantastic and helpful, struggled with English communication and professionalism. At one point, they even tried to charge us for breakfast — despite it being clearly included in our standard rate. It took both us and Lidia having to pull up the booking details to sort it out, which shouldn’t happen at a hotel of this caliber. Housekeeping also had its moments — on our first night, a kind woman brought us extra water upon request, which we appreciated. But the next night, they attempted turndown service at 21:30 with quite a bit of noise, which felt a bit inconsiderate. All in all, Lidia absolutely made our stay. Without her, we would’ve been lost. She is exceptional — and truly embodies what luxury hospitality should be."
