PB hotel design editorial

Trancoso's particular genius has always been the quadrado — that red-earthed village green fringed by coloured fishermen's cottages where Bahia's bohemian intelligentsia discovered itself in the 1970s — and Fasano Trancoso, which opened in 2008, understood that the correct response to such a place was radical understatement. The resort sits within Atlantic Forest on the cliffs above Praia dos Coqueiros, its low-slung bungalows absorbed into the landscape rather than imposed upon it. The entrance pavilion visible in the images — a flat timber canopy on cylindrical columns set against a dry-stone rubble wall, reached across cobbled stone pavement — carries the cool structural logic of Brazilian modernism while remaining entirely at ease with its surroundings. Inside, the rooms sustain that balance with considerable restraint. Polished concrete floors, teak-lined ceilings, upholstered linen headboards, and vintage wooden oar paddles mounted as wall objects establish a vocabulary that is domestic rather than decorative — closer to a well-considered Bahian beach house than a resort. Teak plantation shutters open onto private terraces shaded by palapa roofs dense with woven palm frond. The beach restaurant sets teak Adirondack chairs directly on sand beneath leaning coconut palms, dispensing with any architectural mediation between guest and coastline. The main pool runs a long horizontal plane toward a curtain of royal palms with the Atlantic beyond — a composition that owes something to the Brazilian landscape tradition of Roberto Burle Marx, translated here into pure leisure.

Fasano Trancoso Reviews

"Spent 5 days for a long weekend in mid-April---it was not a holiday weekend but the place seemed pretty full. First time at this property but not the first time staying at a Fasano hotel. I would say categorically we have had great experiences at Fasano properties, so when I read in advance some of the less than positive reviews on the Trancoso resort, I was a bit surprised. Suffice it to say we would have to really struggle to think of a negative comment of any kind. The facilities were spotless; the atmosphere was great (super chill); the staff was amazing--to a person; the location is a 10 out of 10 (assuming you like never-ending/unspoiled beaches, no crowds, warm ocean water, perfect temperature, etc.etc.). The restaurant was outstanding for any meal...but the breakfast is not to be missed. The Quadrado in Trancoso city is worth the trip (several great restaurants and one-of-a-kind locals shops--only a handful of big international brands have opened there yet...so still has a very native feel--which sadly won't last forever). One of the resorts virtues is that it is hard to get to...but it is worth the effort. It was a 90 minutes drive from the Porto Seguro airport. So it is a long day if you are coming from anywhere other than a city that is a direct connection. It would be hard to call it 'value' oriented...it is expensive even in terms of USD.....but if you compare its cost to any other 5 star beach resort (Caribbean/Hawaii/Florida/Mexico) it is a bargain for what you get. Can't wait to go back."

"I had already spent some time here and had a very good memory. And also this time I was very happy. Extremely beautiful setting, nice rooms, great beach, great pool. As some reviewers mentioned the service is not perfect.sometimes it takes too long to get things done, you wait for something simple or it even gets forgotten. However everyone is extremely friendly and adorable, so you forgive the imperfections. I hope they work on the service as this could make the stay even better. I was very happy during the whole week I stayed and will definitely return. Thanks to the whole team for their friendliness and hospitality."
