PB hotel design editorial

Rogério Fasano's decision to commission São Paulo's most celebrated architect, Isay Weinfeld, for his family's first hotel was the kind of bet that pays off permanently. Completed in 2003 in the leafy Cerqueira César neighbourhood, Fasano São Paulo inhabits a building whose horizontally clad timber facade — visible here in warm reddish-brown planks beneath that signature teal canopy — draws on Brazilian modernism without quoting it directly. The entrance canopy's colour and the ribbed natural stone cladding at the porte-cochère establish a material sophistication that carries through every floor of the seven-storey, 60-room property. Weinfeld designed both the architecture and the interiors, which is where the project's real consistency lies. The guestrooms deploy dark-stained jacaranda floors, saddle-leather armchairs in the lineage of mid-century Brazilian furniture, Eames lounge chairs in the suites, striped kilim-style rugs, and articulated brass reading lamps — a vocabulary that sits closer to a well-travelled Paulistano's apartment than to conventional hotel design. The bar, panelled entirely in dark timber with a travertine floor and plaid-upholstered swivel chairs, carries the atmosphere of a private men's club from the 1960s São Paulo that Fasano's restaurant dynasty helped define. Above, the rooftop pool room — its walls finished in pale travertine, its tall bronze-framed windows framing the city canopy — brings the same material seriousness to bear on a space that, in lesser hands, would simply be functional.

About

The Fasano family has, for over a century, created some of the best gourmet dining environments Sao Paulo has to offer. It brings this talent to the management of the most charming hotel in the city, the Fasano hotel. Isay Weinfeld and Marcio Kogan have crafted a distinctly elegant 1930's throwback style ambiance where modern meets the richness of classic designs. Such work can be seen in the facade bricks, imported from England, and the lobby's marble beams from Rome. All rooms are equipped with the newest technologies and styled in fine European elegance.

Fasano São Paulo Jardins Reviews

"What a pleasant surprise! My family and I stayed at the Fasano Sao Paolo on Dec 29 for 4 nights in their 2 bedroom suite. It was extremely well appointed - a blend between mid century modern furniture with modern technology. We loved the heated Japanese toilets and the fresh floral bouquets throughout the suite. I will say we spent a lot of time before selecting the Fasano and are so happy that was our choice. We were there for New Year’s Eve and I couldn’t find much information about what they did compared to other hotels but it was an elegant dinner with beautiful music and unlimited champagne which flowed all night. We also went to Fasano Sao Paolo Itaim for their rooftop party which was great for dancing! Firstly, all hotels located in Jardins are not equal. This was in a prime location in Jardins, connected to a luxury shopping center which was fun to explore. Also, it was near so many wonderful restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Secondly, the hotel smells so good and is extraordinarily well maintained. I’ve read previous reviews that it needed some maintenance, completely disagree. It has old world charm and was impeccable. Thirdly, the hotel amenities were great. The pool looks very small in pictures but it surprisingly is bigger in reality. It was recently remodeled and felt like an oasis, always very quiet, peaceful, spa-like but big enough to do some laps if that’s what you wanted. The double jacuzzi and sauna were also great. My son and I had so much fun playing there with me. We went almost everyday. The food at the restaurant is amazing. The breakfast was really good. Baretto is a gem, the lobby lounge/bar was extremely cozy. Lastly, but most importantly the service is out of this world. I think I know everyone working there by name and I knew most of them before I even got there. They were so warm and kind. I can’t say that about any other hotel I’ve been to and we travel ALOT! I would put our experience there on par with Cap Estel in south of France and Hotel Cafe Royal in London. We can’t thank the staff enough for making our first trip to Brazil spectacular. It was so good, we came back to spend our last night at Fasano before heading back to NY. We will be back to Sao Paolo and definitely will be staying at the Fasano Sao Paolo Jardins."

"WHAT AN AMAZING HOTEL! I always stay in FASANO JARDINS when I travel to São Paulo. Near Shopping Jardins (with amazing restaurants!). The staff is amazing, cleaning is amazing, they always offer some kind of "gift" to the guests, breakfast is really good and both restaurants inside serve EXCELLENT FOOD."

"Really liked the place - from the lobby to the rooms, all oozed understated elegance. The hotel is *tiny* with only 4 rooms on each floor, but it also means you get well looked after. Room service was top notch Italian fare. I had arrived early before check-in and they were very generous with the shower facilities in their spa. Security was tight, so not a problem there. Again, lovely little place."
