PB hotel design editorial

Plovdiv's designation as a European Capital of Culture in 2019 gave the city's hospitality ambitions a decisive push, and The Emporium Plovdiv, part of Accor's MGallery collection, arrived as one of the more architecturally self-aware responses to that moment. The building presents a layered exterior — a salmon-pink upper volume in raked metal cladding sits above a darker base of steel and glass, a panoramic lift shaft rising at the corner like a lantern, its machinery deliberately exposed behind frameless glazing. The neon signage is unabashedly theatrical, the kind of move that announces a hotel not as civic infrastructure but as a destination in its own right. Inside, the interiors trade the exterior's swagger for something warmer and more considered. The lobby clusters rounded lounge chairs in blush and sand around marble-topped tables with brass legs, anchored by a cylindrical walnut fireplace surround that softens what might otherwise feel like a corporate register. Guest rooms carry floor-to-ceiling fluted velvet headboards in caramel tones, oak-toned flooring, and mirror-panelled wardrobes that amplify the amber light from pendant clusters — a palette that holds its warmth without tipping into excess. The restaurant is the most ambitious space: a double-height room where illuminated brass bottle towers, darkened timber tables, and sculptural hanging elements in oxidised metal create the atmosphere of a serious dining room that hasn't forgotten how to have fun.

"Friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Our had a central bed which was interesting, and comfortable as we slept very well. Breakfast was high quality with Bulgarian and international choices. It’s a good location to enjoy Plovdiv on foot. Also, I loved the Fragonard toiletries which smelt amazing."
