PB hotel design editorial

Sited a short distance from the temple complex that draws millions of visitors to Siem Reap each year, Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa was conceived as an exercise in architectural deference — low-rise pavilion blocks arranged around a central courtyard, their terracotta-tiled pitched roofs and dark timber balustrades recalling the domestic vernacular of Khmer colonial architecture rather than asserting any grand hotel ambition. The colonnaded entrance corridor, visible in the images, channels arriving guests through a sequence of white-plastered columns and potted tropical plantings toward a painted stone relief at the reception desk — a processional gesture that borrows something from the axial planning of Angkor's own sacred precincts. Throughout the 39 rooms and suites, the interiors work in dark hardwoods, woven rattan headboard panels, jute circular rugs, and hand-turned drum-form occasional tables with glass tops — materials that carry weight and warmth without straining for exoticism. Balconies furnished with folding teak chairs extend every room into the garden canopy, areca palms and frangipani softening the rooflines beyond. The restaurant sustains this discipline: a soaring teak-beamed ceiling pitched above white linen tables and upholstered chairs in graphite linen, the bar framed in deep mahogany millwork with amber pendant lighting. The pool courtyard, long and dark-tiled, mirrors the surrounding palm grove in its still surface — the effect closer to a private residence than a resort.

"We had a memorable luxurious stay at Anantara Angkor Resort with outstanding service. We would highly recommend staying at the resort if you are visiting Angkor Wat and we would also recommend staying a decent number of days to really experience the beautiful places around Siem Reap and immersing in the culture. We were very well looked after all members of the staff in every department. A massive thank you to Supratik, Yuki and everyone who made this stay memorable. Yuki made a point of checking in with us and ensuring everything was exactly as we wanted it, and that we had no issues at all. That level of care didn’t go unnoticed. Our interaction with the team at Anantara Angkor Resort started with enquiring about the hotel, the signature outings on offer, the food and drink packages and spa services prior to making the booking. The information provided was clear and we decided to choose the Ultra Luxury package which was worth every penny. This included daily tours with a driver and guide, all a La carte meals, free flow drinks, round trip airport transfers including the Visa and a daily spa treatment. On landing at Siem Reap airport and after the visa checks, we were welcome by a driver who escorted us to the vehicle. The journey to the hotel was very enjoyable. We were offered some freshly made snacks and mineral water. These were very welcome. The driver was very professional and friendly. He pointed to us a few areas to visit but also shared information about the history of Siem Reap. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Yuki and other members of the staff. Our hotel room was very clean and it stayed that way everyday. We celebrated my birthday during that stay and our suite was very well decorated for that occasion. The food and beverages on offer were very varied and the chefs catered for all what we wanted. The staff at breakfast, lunch and dinner were all very attentive and wanted to make sure we had what we wanted to eat. The signature cocktails were delightful with a local twist. The signature tours offered by the hotel were exceptional. Yuki and her team provided some good recommendation and prepared an overview of outings before we arrived. They were very flexible to change the outings dependent on what we wanted to do and on the weather. The tour guide Santos who accompanied us during our stay was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was also a very good photographer. He knew all the spots to take the best pictures. The services offered by the SPA team were diverse. We discovered several SPA treatments and have been satisfied with all of them. The staff were considerate throughout, and we left feeling very relaxed. Overall, we had a fabulous memorable stay. A hotel we would strongly recommend to anyone. The staff at every level is doing a fantastic job and you genuinely feel like a valued guest. The warmth and friendliness of the Cambodian people shines through in the team here."

"We have just spent the last 5 days at this beautiful hotel. It is such an amazing place to stay when visiting Siem Reap. The staff could not be any friendlier and nothing is too much trouble. Allow plenty of time for breakfast as there is so much on offer and most of it specially prepared to order. A special shout out goes to Mary in the restaurant. She was so helpful and chatty at breakfast and just added to a great start to the day. Also a big thank you to Ratha who greeted us upon our arrival and was always available for any queries we had. The fact that he always remembered our names was very welcome. The hotel is in a quieter part of the city away from the hustle and bustle of pub street and the riverside area but is only a short Tuk Tuk journey away if you want that more upbeat environment. We would certainly stay here again the next time we visit this great city."

"Beautifully designed hotel, all the spaces flow easily and rooms well appointed. Staff are exceptional from housekeeping to reception, restaurant, professional service with such gracious, lovely attitudes. We were working long days during our visit and were so grateful to come back to such a great quality restaurant, beautiful space, amazing staff and wow comprehensive menu and every dish over our 4 nights excellent and after first night of us sharing our dietary requirements they were able to recommend and anticipate our needs on the subsequent nights. So look forward to our next stay in the coming months. Thank you to owners and staff, you are offering a wonderful service."
