PB hotel design editorial

Sited a short distance from the temple complex that draws millions of visitors to Siem Reap each year, Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa was conceived as an exercise in architectural deference — low-rise pavilion blocks arranged around a central courtyard, their terracotta-tiled pitched roofs and dark timber balustrades recalling the domestic vernacular of Khmer colonial architecture rather than asserting any grand hotel ambition. The colonnaded entrance corridor, visible in the images, channels arriving guests through a sequence of white-plastered columns and potted tropical plantings toward a painted stone relief at the reception desk — a processional gesture that borrows something from the axial planning of Angkor's own sacred precincts. Throughout the 39 rooms and suites, the interiors work in dark hardwoods, woven rattan headboard panels, jute circular rugs, and hand-turned drum-form occasional tables with glass tops — materials that carry weight and warmth without straining for exoticism. Balconies furnished with folding teak chairs extend every room into the garden canopy, areca palms and frangipani softening the rooflines beyond. The restaurant sustains this discipline: a soaring teak-beamed ceiling pitched above white linen tables and upholstered chairs in graphite linen, the bar framed in deep mahogany millwork with amber pendant lighting. The pool courtyard, long and dark-tiled, mirrors the surrounding palm grove in its still surface — the effect closer to a private residence than a resort.

"We had an exceptional stay at this hotel and would confidently rate it as a true five-star experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff stood out. They are genuinely attentive, always present without being intrusive, and clearly focused on ensuring we had the best possible holiday. Nothing felt like too much trouble and the room and facilities were very clean. The design and atmosphere of the hotel are something special. It is beautifully inspired by the principles of Angkor Wat, and you can feel that influence throughout—from the architecture to the calm, almost spiritual ambience. It creates a unique sense of place that elevates the whole experience well beyond a standard hotel stay. The restaurant and bar are also absolutely five-star. One evening, we had the unforgettable experience of the chefs preparing our meal right in front of us, talking us through the spices and techniques as they went. It was a beautifully presented four-course meal, perfectly matched with wine pairings—an experience that felt both personal and top-class. Location-wise, it is ideal—close to the main road which makes it very accessible without any of the noise or disruption. Overall, this is a thoughtfully run hotel with outstanding staff, exceptional dining, a unique and memorable design, and a peaceful environment. We would absolutely stay again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality, relaxing, and distinctive stay. If you book early and plan ahead it can be very good value for money Thankyou again to all the staff at Anantara!"

"A truly delightful experience. The staff were extraordinarily pleasant, the room and resort were beautiful, and the food (and especially the server) was above and beyond. This hotel made me wish I extended my stay in Siem Reap."

"More than just a place to stay, Anantara Angkor Wat feels like a true home away from home—only far more indulgent. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed with the kind of warmth that instantly puts you at ease, a genuine expression of Cambodian hospitality at its finest. Every detail here is intentional. Every interaction feels personal. It’s not just about service—it’s about care. The kind you don’t have to ask for, but quietly notice in every moment. As the day winds down, turndown service becomes something you actually look forward to. Your bed is prepared as if someone’s about to tuck you in, your space gently reset, amenities replenished, and every little detail thoughtfully taken care of—like returning to a room that already knows exactly what you need. The cleanliness of this resort is impeccable with so much attention to detail. There’s a certain calm, almost cinematic elegance to it all—The White Lotus energy, but warmer, more sincere, and far more personal. Every staff knows you like a friend and approaches you with security and care, Location is tucked away from the busy streets of Pub Street which is more peaceful with little to none noise level. Whether you’re starting your day in peace or ending it in complete comfort, every moment here carries a strong sense of being looked after. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t just host you—it embraces you. You honestly get what you paid which is more than just values, Our stay here wouldn’t be amazing without the entire staff on duty from 04/07/26-04/10/26. The love and care for us really set the bar up. It wasn’t just service, it was passion felt right. To my Cha of Chi Restaurant, to Moon and Darany of front desk for always greeting us hello and goodbye upon arriving and leaving, to all the house keeping staff for cleaning our rooms twice and for always attending to our needs, to all butlers and servers 🙏🏻 i am sad to leave this heavenly place 🥹 A stay that goes beyond luxury. One that truly pampers, spoils, and stays with you long after you leave."
