PB hotel design editorial

Sited a short distance from the temple complex that draws millions of visitors to Siem Reap each year, Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa was conceived as an exercise in architectural deference — low-rise pavilion blocks arranged around a central courtyard, their terracotta-tiled pitched roofs and dark timber balustrades recalling the domestic vernacular of Khmer colonial architecture rather than asserting any grand hotel ambition. The colonnaded entrance corridor, visible in the images, channels arriving guests through a sequence of white-plastered columns and potted tropical plantings toward a painted stone relief at the reception desk — a processional gesture that borrows something from the axial planning of Angkor's own sacred precincts. Throughout the 39 rooms and suites, the interiors work in dark hardwoods, woven rattan headboard panels, jute circular rugs, and hand-turned drum-form occasional tables with glass tops — materials that carry weight and warmth without straining for exoticism. Balconies furnished with folding teak chairs extend every room into the garden canopy, areca palms and frangipani softening the rooflines beyond. The restaurant sustains this discipline: a soaring teak-beamed ceiling pitched above white linen tables and upholstered chairs in graphite linen, the bar framed in deep mahogany millwork with amber pendant lighting. The pool courtyard, long and dark-tiled, mirrors the surrounding palm grove in its still surface — the effect closer to a private residence than a resort.

"This hotel is incredible. As soon as we walked in we were blown away by the gorgeous design of the hotel. The service here is the best I have ever experienced and all staff members are so kind and happy to help. The dine by design Apsara show is incredible I thought was such good value and the dancers are amazing and so is the food (I wish I had a bigger appetite and could eat it all)! We also did the Kulen Mountain tour which was amazing. If anyone comes to Cambodia I will tell them this is the must stay hotel!"

"Beautifully constructed hotel! Great spa! We had a relaxing massage there! Very courteous ..they thoughtfully had our room ready for us at 10.30 am considering we took a night flight and had little sleep and check in is usually at 2! Smaller room but with a lot of convenience! Good food choices for vegetarian ! I enjoyed their breakfast and masala chai! We forgot our charger there and they were kind enough to overnight it to Phnom Penh for us! I’d highly recommend staying here again!"

"We stayed at Anantara Angkor for 3 nights with my family and had a wonderful time. Amazing well-maintained property with beautiful rooms. Personally my favorite part was the restaurant which I found very spacious, placed in the middle of the hotel is gets all the light from the sun during the day. The menu options and food quality were also very worth mentioning. Thank you to Vannak and Yuki for arranging everything that we needed and being very helpful both pre-arrival and during stay. Thank you to Chai and all your tea for your great service and care at the restaurant. Anantara Angkor is definitely the 5* hotel you need to stay if visiting Siam Reap! Thank you again for the wonderful time and lifetime memories"

"My daughter and I stayed for three nights and had a truly comfortable and enjoyable experience. The staff were consistently polite, attentive, cheerful, and efficient, and we never felt any inconvenience during our stay. Even before our arrival, the team kindly assisted with arranging guided tours and dining reservations, keeping us well informed with prompt responses and helpful updates. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with traditional Cambodian touches. It was very clean, and all facilities—including the bathroom and shower—were well maintained and comfortable. Overall, thanks to the hotel’s excellent service and well-arranged temple tours, we had a wonderful and memorable trip. We would be happy to return in the future."
