PB hotel design editorial

Perched on Cap Diamant above the St. Lawrence River, the copper-roofed silhouette that defines Quebec City's skyline was designed by New York architect Bruce Price and completed in 1893 as the centrepiece of Canadian Pacific Railway's grand hotel network. Fairmont Le Château Frontenac takes its name from the seventeenth-century French governor Louis de Buade, Count of Frontenac, and its architectural language from the Scottish Baronial and French Renaissance traditions — cylindrical towers capped with steep conical roofs, rusticated stonework in warm grey limestone, and dormer windows punching through pitched slate surfaces in a massing that has been expanded across several additions without losing its feudal coherence. The building now runs to 611 rooms across eighteen floors, its profile so thoroughly embedded in the urban imagination that UNESCO designated Old Quebec a World Heritage Site in 1985, with the château as its defining landmark. Inside, a renovation completed around 2014 brought the guest rooms into a quietly refined register — upholstered headboards in champagne linen, taupe houndstooth carpeting, tufted leather desk chairs, and panelled walls painted in warm greige, the windows framing the river or the fortifications depending on orientation. The 1608 Bar, visible in the images, strikes a deliberately dramatic counterpoint: lacquered black coffered ceilings with gilded ribs, a circular bar counter in brass and dark wood, pendant clusters of amber glass, and library shelving lining the curved walls — closer in atmosphere to a Victorian cabinet of curiosities than a hotel bar. The indoor pool, lit through tall steel-framed windows overlooking the château's own rooflines, completes a property that wears more than a century of accumulated history with considerable ease.

"Impeccable, grand, exquisite, charming, and most delightful. These are the first words that come to mind. We stayed here for 4 days following a cruise we did from Boston to Quebec. We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. The staff was professional, courteous, and above and beyond. Our room was excellent (15th floor suite) service and housekeeping superb. Concierge service exceptional. Lastly, Sunday Brunch at the hotel, everything grand that you would expect it to be! Worth every penny and more."

"From the moment you walk in the golden accented revolving front doors, you can feel the classiness of this place. It’s was a short shuttle ride to the hotel. The bus boys/attendants were unloading our luggage before we even stepped off of the shuttle. We checked in and headed up to our room. Our luggage was already in our room. Our room is huge #5177. It has two different seating areas plus a desk, a wet bar & coffee/tea station & a big shower. There are two different windows that open with a stunning view. It is located just steps away from lots of restaurants and shops. The “Moment Spa” located in the hotel is top notch. I got the absolute best massage I have ever received, ask for Jordan. I also had a top notch facial, ask for Nicola. They have a robe and slippers in your room to wear to the spa. The room service here is also amazing. I called to order and the lady answered the phone and said “hello Mrs. Little” I thought I had accidentally called the front desk. I only have 2 complaints, they need bigger tv’s. The tv is so far across the room that I literally cannot read the guide. I have to get up out of the bed and walk up to the tv to read it. The 2nd complaint is that they don’t have very many tv options in English and I couldn’t find a way to login to any of the streaming services I subscribe to. I do realize that you aren’t supposed to be spending that much time in your room, but that’s how I relax. With all of that being said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you stay here. You will not be disappointed."

"First of all, this is a great hotel! You receive pre-Covid service and are treated the way you would like to be treated when you are a guest of a fine hotel. We will definitely stay again when we return to Quebec City. The main reason I'm writing this review is to help people like myself who have dietary restrictions. I have many and find it challenging to travel. Usually, I can barely eat anything at the breakfasts that come with my hotel stay. Sometimes, I can't eat anything at all. Other times I have very limited options. It's almost always frustrating to ask for help with what I can and can't eat. Sound familiar to anyone? My stay at Le Chateau Frontenac was a fantastic exception in this regard! I owe that to Admir (my server) and Chef Jeff. I cannot say enough about how helpful they were. Chef Jeff clearly and patiently explained to me what I could and couldn't eat. He treated it like these were normal questions. He made special omelets for me each morning. Admir brightened my day by making sure that I was being properly helped. He truly went above and beyond. Each morning, he brought me two breakfast desserts! I can almost never eat desserts in restaurants for dinner. I've never been able to eat desserts at breakfast! Admir and Chef Jeff truly understand dietary restrictions, more than just gluten, dairy, peanuts, and salt. If you decide to have breakfast at Le Chateau Frontenac you will feel confident that you can eat the food that you are served. If possible, ask for Admir to be your server!"
