PB hotel design editorial

Planted at the heart of Yorkville, Toronto's most concentrated district of galleries and couture boutiques, the Four Seasons Toronto opened in 2012 as a purpose-built tower designed by Architects Alliance, rising 55 storeys above Bay Street with a second residential spire alongside it. The arrival sequence announces its intentions early: a forecourt paved in an intricate mosaic pattern, a Victorian-era red cast-iron fountain transplanted from the original Four Seasons property on Avenue Road, and a glass porte-cochère that steps the building down to pedestrian scale before the curtain-wall towers take over above. Peter Remedios of Remedios Studio led the interiors, working in a register that borrows from Japanese minimalism without committing to austerity — floral silver-thread embroidery on tall upholstered headboards, bleached oak millwork, and a palette running from warm ivory to deep amber gold. The 259 rooms carry that language consistently, floor-to-ceiling glazing framing city or ravine views depending on orientation, the tufted bench at the foot of each bed providing a considered punctuation mark rather than an afterthought. The spa level pools the hotel's strongest spatial sequence: a lap pool lined in pale mosaic tile, flanked by striated limestone-effect wall cladding and a run of skylights that draw a clean seam of daylight down the room's central axis. The restaurant, Café Boulud Toronto, strikes a deliberately warmer register than the rooms — cognac leather banquettes, walnut panelling with brass trim, and sage-green curved sofas introducing a mid-century club atmosphere against the cool sophistication found elsewhere.

"I arrived on the Friday of a holiday weekend, Victoria Day, which could explain possible short staff issues. I had to ask several times for different items, and then someone came to my room who wasn't supposed to be there - by mistake. I was just surprised that the service level seemed lower than the other Four Seasons I've stayed at. Checking in with the person at reception was amazing and he gave me a room tour. I always bring candy from my hometown to share with the front desk staff which they always appreciate. When checking out, I was going to tell the person that there were issues with my stay but she never asked me "How was your stay?" She seemed to be in a hurry and it felt more like a Target checkout. Some of us may not look very fancy but being treated nicely should be available to everyone. Some of us have stayed at several Four Seasons and are loyal to the brand. Don't make us reconsider that. The food was great and the spa area was amazing. Just do better with service."

"The entire team is wonderful. From valet to front desk (Aranza, Ryan and Livvy) were extra helpful. Aranza went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was enjoyable, and comfortable. Frances and Hans and Peggy ensured that my group was always taken care of leading up to my arrival. Day of, John, Naushad and Murad took care of everything and made sure that everything went smoothly and flawlessly. Kori and his AV team made sure that all of mg speakers felt comfortable and prepared."

"I did a staycation with my mother and we did a 2 nights stay in early/mid April. I would highly recommend the hotel, I always love Four Seasons and it lived up to it's brand. The room were nicely designed and quaint, the beds were very comfortable and we were upgraded to higher floor at check in. The hotel spa is a must with the indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam and infared sauna facility offering. My mom opted for a full spa experience with stone massage and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed the indoor pool and infarred red sauna with no complaints. The spa and indoor pool was nicely designed - I would highly recommend checking it out! Perfect for couples, me day or a girls / boys spa day. I liked how they had a separate small room in the indoor pool area for those to enjoy snacks / bites/ drinks. We also checked out the Cafe Boulud restaurant, and as always his restaurants never disappoints, the food was scrumptious. We also did a night cap at DJ bar and the service was excellent, we couldn't finish the bottle of wine and the waiter allowed for us to bring it back to our room ( nice touch!) The only reason I did not give it a full 5 star rating only a 4 star rating is because I didn't feel the service was consistent through out the entire hotel. Being a 5 star hotel and being the original first Four Seasons to open, I expected more fluid service and full on service. It was quite busy as it was the weekend so you get outside visitors as well as hotel guests at check in. When I checked my mother in, the person at reception signed us in nicely, but there was no one to greet us to bring us into the Spa Room ( I feel there could have been a better handoff) as oppose to directing us from a far. Also we were not offered tea at registration, like everyone else ( this was probably due to it being quite busy at the reception). My suggestion would be to have a consistent welcoming and have people ready to greet and walk us to the Spa facilities welcome room. It was confusing as people signed in and checked out and all the staff was inside the reception area and there are no seats in the front area reception area. They should have someone leading you into the spa room facilities to sign in (Albeit we were offered to head to the spa relaxation area to complete our form, but they seemed busy and I opted to just sign the form on the spot to save time). Overall it was still a very pleasant stay and I would go back, but the service and consistency could be a notch improved given it's 5 star and OG of Four Seasons !"
