PB hotel design editorial

At the corner of Hazelton Avenue and Yorkville's most animated pedestrian stretch, a curved red-brick base rises through three floors of late-Victorian commercial vernacular before giving way to nine upper storeys of limestone-clad contemporary construction — a studied act of urban continuity that defines the Hazelton Hotel's relationship to one of Toronto's most architecturally self-conscious neighbourhoods. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects and completed in 2007, the 77-room property threads heritage massing at street level into a quietly confident residential tower above, its terraced upper floors planted with greenery that softens the transition between old and new. Inside, Yabu Pushelberg's interiors strike a tone that is closer to well-appointed private residence than trophy hotel. Guest rooms are finished in layered taupe and warm grey, with tall panelled headboards in wrapped leather, brass-detailed nightstands, and a palette that shifts between amber and sage depending on the seating — sculptural swivel chairs in sage velvet alongside paired armchairs in cognac leather, both reading against hatch-weave carpet in charcoal and silver. The bar draws on a more theatrical register: green-veined marble countertops, a black-and-white diamond-patterned stone floor, and red leather barstools anchored against dark-stained timber shelving. Below grade, the spa pool is lined in patterned aqua mosaic tile, its walls clad entirely in split-face marble — an effect that manages to feel grotto-like and composed at once.

The Hazelton Hotel Toronto Reviews

"You can tell from all the other reviews that this is an exceptional property. If you are bound for Toronto and you do not need to stay in the downtown business district, this should be your choice of where to stay, hands down ! Located in the heart of Yorkville, the surrounding area is great for shopping, dining, people watching and just strolling. The hotel itself is truly amazing. The rooms are large, well-designed, tastefully decorated and the oversized bathrooms are fantastic - dare I say the second best in the world (only beaten by The Burj Al Arab). These rooms offer superlative comfort to any traveler. The level of service throughout the hotel is beyond excellent; everyone from the front desk to housekeeping is exceptionally polite and incessantly helpful; no wish goes unfulfilled. A special shoutout to all the Doormen, especially Michael. The bar and restaurant at "ONE" are great, matching everything else at the Hazelton. And finally, the Spa and Fitness area are first class. The indoor pool is small ,but adequate to do laps. I can only sum up by saying that we are eagerly looking forward to our next stay."

"We booked a couples treatment and Angela at the front desk really stood out to us! She was incredibly friendly, courteous and helpful. She went as far as to give us a thorough tour of the facilities. She made our day feel special with her excellent service and even recommended additional services that we could enjoy while we we're there. We will definitely be coming back and recommending our friends to visit as well 😁."

"I decided to treat myself for my birthday and visited the spa at The Hazelton Hotel and I’m really glad I did.The facial and body massage were amazing. Lana was so warm and was genuinely kind, made me feel really taken care of. The spa itself is cozy, it honestly feels like everything is just for you. Also, the hotel looks beautiful. I’d love to stay there one day. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but I think worth it. Thank you for such a lovely experience. I’ll definitely be back!"
