PB hotel design editorial

A converted brutalist tower on Bloor Street East is not the obvious canvas for theatre-inspired scenography, but that tension is precisely what makes W Toronto one of the more considered additions to Yorkville's increasingly dense hotel landscape. Sid Lee Architecture, the Montreal studio better known for brand identity work, handled both the architecture and interiors when the property opened in 2022, treating the existing concrete shell not as a problem to solve but as a neutral backdrop against which to push hard on colour and drama. The result across 254 rooms and 30 suites is an interior language that shifts registers floor by floor: rooms feature deep cobalt accent walls, terrazzo surfaces, geometric patterned carpets, and upholstered platform beds that sit against the blue like stage sets waiting for their occupants. The communal spaces are where Sid Lee's instincts run fullest. A circular concrete banquette around a fire pit anchors the Living Room lobby — a glass-cube volume that reads directly onto Bloor — with trailing botanicals suspended overhead and bronze lounge chairs pulled into orbit around the flame. One level up, an outdoor terrace bar drapes itself in hanging vines and rattan furniture, creating a pocket of vegetation that feels deliberately at odds with the steel-and-glass office towers pressing in on all sides. An external glass elevator connects the street directly to the rooftop, turning the journey itself into part of the arrival sequence — which, given the facade's cascading backlit panels, is already hard to ignore.

"I took my 102 years old mother there for high tea. Not only they accommodated my request for sharing one tea set with my mom, they made a few extra pastries especially for her, ex. a smaller pastry that was easier for her bite; a different pastry than mine because it had meringue topping, ( not fully cooked egg white is not suitable for elderly for safety); so considerate, and no extra charge. We totally enjoyed the lovely presentations and the not so sweet and light pastries, the truffle egg sandwich and others. The pastry chef came out to explain what each piece was. The server was friendly of course. Not a big deal, but I was just a little disappointed that the location was relocated to the loft of the bar cafe, and not at the Living room on the 6 th floor, with the garden- feel atmosphere as shown on the website."

"Hotel was beautiful and the service was top notch! My only 2 tiny complaints are that the WiFi in the room was very bad and the hotel did not have any umbrellas to lend out during a town storm. Aside from that it was an amazing stay."

"Really nice hotel but a couple things to keep in mind for the room. My wife and I had no issues but for couples who aren’t as comfortable, the bathroom is pretty much in the open and the door provides little to no privacy. Something to keep in mind. The temperature in the room was not working. It was freezing when we came in and it was set to 22. I put it up to 25 and it only got a little warmer. Bed was super comfortable and the room was clean. Got a late checkout for 1pm which was nice. Bar is nice and excellent drinks! Perfect location if you want to be somewhat close to yorkville."

"Check in was easy and valet was fast. I had a standard room. The view was boring, it only had one standard sized window with no real view (but apparently a better view). The layout and furniture was however very nice. The room was on the smaller side but they did a nice job of making the most of it. Coffee in the room was a lovely Nespresso. They sent a very nice gift to the room as well. The restaurant was okay but not great. In a bind I'd go there. If this is your location need it's a good opportunity."
