PB hotel design editorial

When it opened in 1927, the building on West Georgia Street was Vancouver's most ambitious act of civic confidence — a twelve-storey Georgian Revival tower designed by Archibald Campbell Hope that signalled the city's arrival as a serious commercial metropolis. The property hosted Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, and every Canadian prime minister of consequence before its eventual decline. Rosewood Hotel Georgia's restoration, completed in 2011 after a C$130-million renovation, returned the original brick facade and limestone base to something closer to their intended authority, while interior designer Chil Interior Group recast the 156 rooms and public spaces in a register that honours the building's 1920s bones without retreating into pastiche. The interiors move between two moods. Guest rooms deploy ebonized wood headboards with quilted diamond detailing against grasscloth-panelled walls, ivory upholstered sofas, and floral-patterned carpets — a palette of warm cream, taupe, and deep chocolate that carries a quiet Art Deco conviction. The 1927 cocktail bar, visible in the images, is the property's most accomplished space: dark walnut millwork, gilded cornice moulding, and walls hung salon-style with black-and-white photography create the atmosphere of a private club that has always existed. Down in the spa, the indoor pool room shifts registers entirely — cream travertine pilasters, bold striped nero marquina marble panels, and an illuminated geometric pool mosaic arrive at something more contemporary, evidence of the renovation's ambition to extend the building rather than simply preserve it.

Rosewood Hotel Georgia Reviews

"Stayed here during the Vancouver marathon for 4 nights. Valet is not very helpful. We checked in around 1pm and was told the room is semi-ready and we will receive a text when the room is ready. We headed out for a stroll and at 3:30 we still didn’t receive a text. So we went back and checked, the room was ready. Somehow they forgot to send us a text? The room is kind of dark, decor is modern. Bed is very comfortable. However the AC is not cool enough so I woke up sweating. Also, the shower pressure is good but the shower didn’t have a separate shower handle. The Gym has all technogym, it is bright and the small studio is great for stretch. The breakfast selection is limited, nothing really stood out. When we checkout the bill was a mass which we had to spend some time to make sure that itemize item is correct one by one."

"The highlight of our visit to the Rosewood Hotel Georgia was the incredible performance by Jade Monet. Her voice is absolutely world class, soulful, powerful, and perfectly suited for the atmosphere at The Georgia Bar. If you're in Vancouver, you have to check her schedule and catch a set. She’s a must see talent!"

"This is an astoundingly beautiful hotel. It has an amazing lobby bar with nightly live music, which is top notch. It is well positioned in downtown Vancouver. Joe and Joe at the bar are fantastic. Personable, efficient and good conversationalists. However the person who really stands out is Robert at the front door. He welcomed us, remembered us and even called us by name. He is efficient and extremely personable. He has you settled into your hotel room in no time. He is the face of this hotel and representative of the wonderful service at the Hotel Georgia."

"This hotel is in a high end neighborhood- think Prada, Hermes, Tiffany. It’s within a 10 min walk to numerous good restaurants which was why we booked it. It has a very chic and hip vibe. Lobby is very noisy with loud live music most nights. We could enjoy the lobby only one night when music wasn’t playing. Service was uniformly good. Our room was annoyingly small which made me question our choice. Mattress and pillows were comfortable. Overall served our purposes pretty well"
