PB hotel design editorial

Reflected in the still surface of its namesake lake at Whistler's quieter Creekside end, a warm-toned timber and stone structure announces a different ambition from the village's busier resort towers. Nita Lake Lodge, which opened in 2008 with 77 rooms and suites across four floors, was conceived as a year-round lakeside retreat rather than a ski-season hotel — a distinction that shaped every material and spatial decision. The exterior massing draws from Pacific Northwest lodge vernacular, with heavy exposed timber framing, pitched rooflines, and cedar-toned cladding that settles into the surrounding Douglas fir forest rather than asserting itself against it. Inside, the interiors pursue a restrained mountain modernism that avoids the antler-and-plaid clichés of alpine hospitality. Guestrooms pair flat-panel maple headboards and platform beds in warm-stained wood against charcoal-painted feature walls, the palette grounded by wool-blend throws and tartan-weave curtains that filter forest light without blocking it. Double-height lofted suites feature floor-to-ceiling gridded windows and stacked-stone fireplace surrounds — the stone coursework visible throughout, from room hearths to the outdoor pool terrace where Adirondack chairs face a wall of old-growth cedar. The restaurant space, recently refreshed, layers wide-plank dark oak floors with leather banquette seating and sculptural pendant lighting trailing botanicals — a shift in register toward something more considered than the original lodge interiors, and evidence that the property continues to evolve its identity beyond its setting alone.

"If one can do without the hustle and bustle of Whistler Village then the Nita Lake Lodge at Creekside is your place. Off the beaten path in a quaint, picturesque setting. Laid back luxury with all the amenities you’d expect from a Michelin-awarded hotel. From hands-on management to front desk to housekeeping, the entire staff is SUPER friendly and personable. On-site food and restaurant choices are absolute on par with what else Whistler has to offer. The lounge is the perfect hang-out Après ski or after dinner or anytime on an iffy-weather day. The off-site ski locker room, just five minutes on foot, or two by hotel shuttle is found just some steps away from the Creekside gondola, which is a plus at the end of the ski-day. If one is looking for casual luxury and can do without the Ritz(y) - pun intended - of other high-end accommodations, the Nita Lake Lodge is your place. PS: One would not want to miss the pop-up cheese fondue hosted by French'eese Fridays to Sundays inside the Fix Café. BEST cheese fondue, period."

"This is not a 4 star hotel. A 4 star hotel has services. Nita Lake Lodge has virtually no services and is badly in need of painting in the rooms, elevator, and public areas. This property looks beautiful from the exterior, but inside it is a different story. I can't imagine how it received a Michelin recommendation. The experience was more like staying in a glorified Motel 6. In February 2026, I booked 2 suites -a one bedroom suite and a 2 bedroom suite. We paid $14k and change. When I arrived, I found: - There is no room service - I was told to order from the restaurant and pick up my own food to bring it upstairs. That was the first red flag. -There is no mini bar -- not a scrap of food in the room to eat. -There is no bottled water in the room -- there are eco laws in Whistler that prohibit plastic bottles, but not glass bottles -- nothing in the room but tap water. -There is no laundry service -- I was told I could go to the garage to wash and dry my own clothes! - The elevator areas were extremely beat up and looked like they haven't been maintained in a decade. - Our room had chipped and peeling paint throughout on the dark wood trim. - There is no dresser in the room or anywhere to put clothes other than 3 very small drawers in a closet and a few cubbies in the wall. - We had to to call maintenance twice to fix the toilet that had a flushing problem. After writing a detailed letter of complaint to the owner of the hotel, I was immediately contacted by senior staff. In a short meeting, I was offered free breakfasts for the duration of the stay and a $200 discount at the restaurant for each of our two rooms. Well, OK. My complaint wasn't really about the money --I would have been fine if the hotel had been as advertised. But for $14,000, this seemed like a gratuitous gesture that made little difference. Unfortunately, it seemed like there was little motivation to improve the hotel -- it was packed when we were there, and the staff told me that the problem was that it was advertised as a 4-star hotel. Agreed -- BIG problem, Very misleading. Bottom line: do not stay here if you expect any services or a sense of luxury. This hotel is a very expensive roof over your head and nothing more."

"I am writing this review to show my appreciation for an amazing hotel experience. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. We love the Christmas displays. Lots of opportunities to take special pictures. The displays are new and fresh each year. I love Christmas and am always happy to see what is new. The rooms are so cozy ( but they are not small) I love having the fireplace in the sitting room. The bedroom is a very nice size and the beds are extremely comfortable . The bathroom is spacious and fresh feeling The showers are large and beautiful however I prefer soaking in the large tub. There are shutters in the bathroom that open to the bedroom if you like to talk to your partner while you bathe. You can look out your living room window to see the beautiful lake. There are two restaurants with very friendly staff, that come from all over the world. They are professional and interesting to talk to. It is fun to hear the accents.I like to ask how they ended up working at Nita. I had a relaxing massage, rooftop hot tub with the view of the mountains and a swim in the nice warm pool. All in one day! The entire Nita experience was beyond expectation ,every time we have stayed there. The cafe is a good spot to enjoy a hot chocolate / coffee or tea and a scone. From the time we walk in until the moment we leave , it is pure luxury enjoyment."

"The lodge overlooks Lake Nita. It is located about 30 minutes from the centre of Whistler. We had a gigantic suite overlooking the lake which included are own staircase to the upper bedroom. There was also a comfortable balcony, just right for an evening sundowner. The Whistler valley trail provides good foot and bicycle access from the hotel to Whistler via a gentle dedicated footpath. The trail avoids the main road for most of the route. The hotel has a shuttle service for local journeys. The hotel also provides canoes with personal flotation devices, ideal for paddling around the lake."
