PB hotel design editorial

Santiago's El Golf district — the financial quarter that Chileans sometimes call Sanhattan — has always demanded a particular kind of authority from its buildings, and the red brick and limestone facade of The Ritz-Carlton Santiago, rising fourteen floors above Avenida El Alcalde since 1997, delivers it with considerable conviction. The exterior, visible in these images after dark, presents the measured grammar of late postclassical hotel architecture: a deeply coffered porte-cochère in painted white timber, brass lanterns flanking richly grained mahogany entry doors, limestone pilasters giving the base a solidity that the red brick upper floors carry upward with real presence. The 205-room property was among the first internationally branded luxury hotels to establish itself in this corridor, and its architecture deliberately signals permanence in a neighborhood still finding its footing at the time of opening. Inside, two registers coexist without much tension. The whisky bar — all floor-to-ceiling walnut panelling, leather club chairs with brass nailhead trim, and black granite bartop — carries the atmosphere of a London members' club transplanted wholesale to the Southern Cone. The guest rooms, refreshed in a subsequent renovation, move somewhere more contemporary: teal grasscloth headwall panels framed in carved walnut screens, tufted leather bench footboards, rose-gold pendant clusters in copper-brushed metal, and mid-century inspired lounge chairs in warm walnut. The rooftop pool, sheltered beneath a barrel-vaulted glass and steel conservatory, is the property's most architecturally singular space — arched ribs in sand-coloured concrete spanning a lap pool flanked by rattan daybeds and potted palms.

"This is a hard review for me to write. There was so much to like about the Ritz-Carlton, Santiago. I stayed here for two nights on my way to Rapa Nui and two nights before my flight back home. The hotel is beautiful--elegant, incredible rooms and amenities, a wonderful restaurant, and a location in a lovely part of the city. I had specifically chosen the hotel for its legendary service--and I felt a bit let down. During my most recent trip to Santiago, I found myself in a terrifying and dangerous situation at the airport when I arrived and my driver wasn't there--and so I chose the Ritz knowing their driver would be there. On my arrival from Panama City, all was well and the driver was waiting for me. On my return from Rapa Nui in the evening, however, I couldn't find my driver. Although I called the hotel and asked what happened, I never got an answer but I suspect the driver might have been waiting at the International Terminal although flights from Rapa Nui come in to the domestic terminal since Rapa Nui is part of Chile. It took an hour to get it straightened out and so I arrived at the hotel exhausted and traumatized. While I appreciated the gifts of a bottle of wine and appetizers and the apologies, I just felt so let down. I asked several times if I had done something wrong/been waiting in the wrong place/etc. but got no answer. I doublechecked the email I had sent to the hotel in advance and it had all of the correct flight information so I was left confused and frustrated. Finally, a "need to read the room" suggestion for next time. I was startled to find out that the driver assigned to take me back to the airport was the one who wasn't at the arrival area. It wasn't a good end to the trip. A few final comments: 1. While I appreciated the security scattered throughout the lobby area, they just looked scary. 2. A big thanks to Francisca for arranging two great day trips for me. 3. A shout out to Catalina and the Estro wait staff. 4. And thank you to the chef and kitchen staff for making my seafood dinners sublime."

"Excellent top notch hotel! The Ritz is centrally located and in a very safe area. The food and gym were great no real reason to stay anywhere else."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ritz Carlton Santiago. The thing that sets this hotel apart is the service. All of the employees had great smiles and would go the extra mile for you. Our room on the 11th floor was spacious, clean, and quiet. Housekeeping was good. The food in the restaurant was delicious. There's a beautiful indoor pool, spa, and outdoor seating area on the 15th floor. The hotel was located right next to the El Golf metro station. Many guests have complained that the hotel needs an upgrade, and I agree. While we were there the main restaurant was closed (another area served as the temporary restaurant) and was in the process of being upgraded to reopen in mid-May. The next scheduled upgrade was the bar and lounge area. For us, the hotel was still functional with all the upgrades going on. Would highly recommend."

"A warm, polished stay with standout service. The team really makes the difference here, especially Cristian, the porter, who was genuinely kind and helpful with my bags. The hotel itself is elegant and comfortable, and overall service felt thoughtful and consistent. The only downside for me was the lack of a view from the room, which made it feel a bit enclosed. Also worth noting: access to the lounge comes at an additional (and fairly high) nightly fee, even with the highest elite status, which was a bit surprising. That said, if you value service and a more classic, refined atmosphere, this is a solid choice."

From the moment I arrived, the service was outstanding and truly reflected the high standards of the Ritz-Carlton brand. I would especially like to recognize Ambrosio, who went above and beyond to make my birthday unforgettable. His kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail made me feel genuinely valued and celebrated. Small touches and his warm approach made a big difference, turning my stay into a memorable experience. Thank you to Ambrosio and the entire team for making my birthday so special. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the future."
