PB hotel design editorial

Tucked into Santiago's most culturally dense neighbourhood, where bookshops and neoclassical facades line the streets around Parque Forestal, The Singular Santiago Lastarria Hotel inhabits a mid-century residential building whose warm brick and dark steel balconies give it the quiet authority of a well-maintained apartment block rather than a purpose-built hotel. The facade presents as restrained and urban — eight storeys of modulated brick relieved by dark-framed balconies and a limestone-clad ground floor colonnade, the entrance marked by wrought-iron gates flanking clipped box topiaries in blackened concrete planters. It is the kind of building that belongs to a neighbourhood rather than announcing itself above one. Inside, the interiors move between two distinct registers. The guest rooms carry the unhurried warmth of a well-appointed private residence — Louis XV-style bergères in pale linen set against damask curtains in honey and taupe, dark walnut writing desks with brass banker's lamps, botanical prints in gilt frames above upholstered headboards. The bar and restaurant spaces shift the mood toward a clubby Anglophile masculinity: reclaimed hardwood floors, exposed painted beams, long dark-marble bar counters, cognac leather club chairs, and walls dense with framed New Yorker covers and black-and-white photography. Brass cone pendants hang low over the cocktail bar, whose shelved library wall and barrel-form side tables in lacquered gold give the room the feeling of a well-travelled gentleman's study rather than a hotel lounge.

About

Built to blend seamlessly into the neighborhood of Lastarria, The Singular Santiago combines the style of early 20th century buildings with neoclassical French architectural influences. The result is a striking new addition to the Santiago cityscape. The hotel’s design embraces the artistic heritage of the neighborhood, while adding a cutting-edge modernity: it is an innovative homage to the city’s history and culture. The interior of the hotel recalls the days of yore: a tribute to the palaces of past centuries that sets the tone for the entire environment. Each doorway is a portal not just into another room, but to another place: a Singular setting with an ambiance all its own. Everywhere you go in this Santiago hotel, you’ll experience yet another pleasant surprise. The endlessly indulgent spa. The superlative dining experience at the first floor restaurant. The dazzling views and refreshing cocktails in the ninth floor Sky Bar. Step out onto the elevated terrace, and you’re treated to a spectacular view: the Parque Forestal, an arboreal escape right alongside the hotel. The hotel is not only bounded by natural beauty, though; Lastarria is the epicenter of the arts here in Santiago. Walk just a few minutes, and you can discover some of the finest visual and performance art Chile has to offer at The Museum of Fine Arts, The Museum of Visual Arts, the Gabriela Mistral Center and more. Quite simply, we believe we’ve created a hotel worthy of the Singular name. We hope you’ll join us soon, and see if you agree.

The Singular Santiago, Lastarria Hotel Reviews

"Positive The location is excellent and makes it easy to explore Santiago on foot. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and very quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was one of the best we had during our South America trip. The staff were friendly and professional throughout our stay. Breakfast is served à la carte, which was a different concept from what we are used to, but the food quality and taste were very good. Negative Nothing significant. The à la carte breakfast may be different for guests who prefer a traditional buffet, but we enjoyed the quality of the food."

"In my lifetime, I've stayed in over 70 hotels and Airbnbs, ranging from 2-star to 5-star properties, and I have to say the Singular Hotel Lastarria is easily top 3 on my list. From the moment my family and I stepped out of our cab in front of the hotel, we were treated exceptionally well by the team. Jorge met us out front right away to help with our bags and offered us sweets, which were an instant hit with the kids. Martin was consistently ready to help with every request we had — from utensils to a crib to getting change for money — and he also offered great recommendations on things to do. When the ticketing site for the Mirador Interactive Museum wasn't working properly, he helped us buy tickets directly. Breakfast, which was included, was incredible. It's served à la carte, and the team is happy to customize orders to your liking. Constanza was our server each morning, and her promptness and service were fantastic — she was wonderful with our kids as well. On departure day, Patricio helped with our bags, and when road closures caused some issues coordinating with Uber/cabs, he took it upon himself to help me communicate with the driver who ultimately picked us up for the airport. I'll also note that Patricio and Martin were both ready to help carry all five of our suitcases (!!) to a more accessible street when needed. We stayed in a Singular King with a Balcony, and the room was fantastic — plenty of space, and the bathroom (including the tub) was incredible. Housekeeping tidied our room the moment we left for breakfast each day, which was genuinely impressive, and turndown service was just as prompt and timely. I wouldn't think twice about staying here again, and I'd recommend it to anyone without hesitation. Thank you again to the entire team — Jorge, Martin, Patricio, Costanza, Rocío, and Cristóbal — you welcomed us like family, and my wife and I are so grateful."

"The best service for anywhere I've stayed in the room. The domestic staff who cleaned the room were so friendly and attentive, the doorman and desk team were always greeting me with a smile and a gentle hello, the spa tea were so helpful (and the spa was spotless, steam room was so steamy), I had a magical massage from Isla who sent me into a dreamland, and the restaurant team were so efficient and friendly at the same time. Amazing"
