PB hotel design editorial

At the northern edge of Sheung Wan, where Hong Kong Island's financial district gives way to the older merchant streets running up toward Hollywood Road, a slender curtain-wall tower glows against the dusk sky like a lit vitrine. That building is 99 Bonham, a 22-storey boutique hotel of 69 rooms whose glass-and-dark-steel facade, visible in the exterior photograph taken at dusk, places it firmly in the lineage of refined commercial modernism rather than the tropical exuberance that characterizes much of Hong Kong's hotel architecture. The rooftop terrace commands an unobstructed sightline across the Central skyline — Two IFC and Exchange Square rising in the near distance, Victoria Peak massing behind them — a view that makes the building's restrained language feel like a deliberate act of editorial confidence. Inside, the interiors work a considered palette of oak flooring, polished chrome, and cool grey upholstery, the guest rooms furnished with X-base dining tables, Arco-style arc floor lamps in brushed steel, and headboards in smoked glass panels that catch and diffuse the city light flooding through full-height windows. A wire-drawn geometric cube rendered in black line on the bedroom wall above one configuration adds a graphic note without tipping into decoration for its own sake. Marble side tables and linen curtains soften what could easily read as too austere — the overall atmosphere landing closer to a well-appointed Milanese apartment than a conventional hotel room.

"We had a great stay in the 99 Bonham which is conveniently located near the ferry ports from which you can catch the boat across to the other side of Hong Kong (very short ride) and to many other locations like Discovery Bay, Macau etc.. Staff was friendly and helpful and the room was spacious and clean with good views over the city. There is a small terrace on the top with a couple of seats. They have shower rooms you can use even after you have checked out. Very convenient if you have a late flight out. There is also a gym and 24 hour reception. Luggage will be held for you, after check out, if necessary. Good location with lots going."

"We stayed 10 nights here and absolutely would stay again. The location was great, very central right next to the MTR station. The room was spacious and had everything we needed, plus the laundry facilities were super handy. Was also very quiet from inside the room, we could hardly hear any noise from other rooms/the street at all. The service was amazing too, very friendly staff who were always going above and beyond to accommodate and assist. The owner was also there quite a bit and was lovely and always offered to help. Would highly recommend this hotel, great value for money too!"

"Had a wonderful time at Bonham 99 especially thanks to the managers’ hospitality. Special thanks to Ivan Chang for understanding guest situation and making adjustments to check-out times. Deep appeciation for Connie and Jaevianne for allowing smooth check-in and provding a room that best fits our conditions. Night time false fire alarm was a bit troiblesome but staff’s kindness outweighs the difficulties. Will definitely come back next year! Thanks again!"

"I had a two-night trip in Hong Kong and came across this hotel while browsing on the internet. I enjoy the experience staying at this hotel. The front desk lady is super nice and accommodating. They gave us a room in the higher floor and the room is clean and relatively big for Hong Kong. Decent shower, great water pressure (very important). Most important, the location is very good. It’s closed to a lot of restaurants and even tourist spots. There’s even metro station near by. Overall, I had a great time."
