PB hotel design editorial

That faceted aluminium-and-glass facade, folded into sharp geometric planes like a cut gemstone rising above Wan Chai's harbour district, is the first thing that distinguishes the St. Regis Hong Kong from its neighbours along the waterfront corridor. Designed by Rocco Design Architects and completed in 2019 within the Wan Chai development zone, the tower's crystalline cladding catches light differently at every hour — a deliberate counterpoint to the glass curtain-wall uniformity that defines much of Hong Kong's commercial skyline. The hotel itself takes up the lower floors of the mixed-use high-rise, with 129 rooms and suites across its hotel levels. The interiors, conceived by Cheng Chung Design, navigate the tension between the building's angular modernity and a warmer, more layered sensibility drawn from Hong Kong's cultural inheritance. Guest rooms shift between two distinct registers: some finished in dark-stained oak panelling with bronze hardware and jade-green decorative discs set into backlit shelving — an unambiguous nod to Chinese material culture — while others take a lighter approach, pairing pale timber floors with dusty blue hand-knotted rugs and wing chairs in textured grey wool. The lobby lounge, its double-height ceiling hung with cascading glass-and-brass chandeliers, draws the eye through folding bronze-latticed screens toward the terrace beyond. At pool level, the building's distinctive facade looms in the background as the outdoor terrace stretches along stone-clad decking beneath a colonnade of arched bronze beams.

The St. Regis Hong Kong Reviews

"We enjoyed a delightful tasting menu with Tom, Land as our server and Alexis as the sommelier — both were professional and friendly. The meal began with a crispy spicy shrimp salad served in a crunchy cup (taco-style) — very refreshing. The Iberico char siu with pickled cabbage and snow fish spring roll was flavorful and well balanced. The soy-butter cognac lobster tail was rich and perfectly cooked. A course of morel and asparagus with pigeon breast, served with glazed quail leg, was elegant and earthy. The sakura shrimp and mullet roe fried rice was fragrant and deeply satisfying. Desserts — chilled pink guava cream with sago and coconut jelly, and a ginger-sweet potato choux puff reminiscent of a Hong Kong pineapple bun — were light and playful. Highly recommended for inventive Cantonese dishes and attentive service."

"This is our home away from home. Everything from the breakfast, facilities, room service, room quality and restaurants are top tier. The rooms are large for HK standards and the suites are excellent. We come 1-2 times a year and the team recognizes us and remembers our preferences. It’s very impressive. My initial hesitation was that this hotel was a little bit far away from many of my meetings in Central but it’s actually very convenient. Uber pick up is easy here and very walkable to restaurants in Wan Chai. For those with young families, this is a very good location and is probably the closest luxury product you can get near Ocean Park! The breakfast is perfect for kids and everything is possible. True Luxury. Don’t miss out on the complimentary juice, milk, coffee and tea service. I would like to acknowledge the new management team, front desk (Vincent especially), and dining teams for always making it a great stay."

"This is a great hotel. The staff is super friendly and the rooms are quite sizeable and well appointed. The butler staff contacted me early about any requests and I mentioned it was my wife's birthday and they got her a mini cake for her birthday along with a card. Additionally, the breakfast here is quite tasty and filling. Highly recommend."
