PB hotel design editorial

Planted at the southern tip of West Kowloon on a reclaimed waterfront that barely existed two decades ago, W Hong Kong announced itself in 2008 as the brand's first property in the city — and arguably its most architecturally committed. The tower's facade, clad in a latticed bronze screen layered over a golden glass curtain wall, generates a shimmering quality at dusk that signals something deliberately theatrical within. Rocco Design Architects handled the building, while the interiors were developed in collaboration with design teams working to the W aesthetic brief, producing 393 rooms and suites across 30 floors of pure harbour-facing spectacle. The interior language is unambiguous about its ambitions. Suites at the upper levels deploy liquid-mirrored ceilings over vertically striated wall surfaces in deep bronze and green, with custom circular-patterned carpets and sinuous leather chaise longues that push toward set design rather than conventional hospitality. The bar draws on a different register entirely — a curved leather banquette running beneath a coffered ceiling of dark timber and aged mirror, chain-curtain room dividers filtering the harbour light into something moodier. The all-day dining restaurant seats guests among Norman Cherner-derived walnut side chairs and clusters of amber and clear blown-glass pendants, a cylindrical gold-studded column anchoring the room while Victoria Harbour stretches unobstructed beyond the floor-to-ceiling glass. Throughout, the view is the one constant — every design decision either frames or competes with it.

"We stayed to celebrate our marriage. It was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. Special thanks to Alex and the concierge staff, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. We were delighted to be upgraded to the Marvellous Suite, which was beautifully decorated for our celebration. The thoughtful touches and attention to detail created such a warm and joyful atmosphere. Every interaction with the staff reflected professionalism, kindness, and genuine hospitality. Our stay was not only comfortable but also filled with moments that made us feel truly special. Thank you to everyone at W Hong Kong for making our celebration so enjoyable."

"This is my third stay at the W Hong Kong. The hotel is very easy to get to thanks to being above a transportation hub - express train from the airport and subway stations in the high-end Elements shopping mall beneath the hotel. The hotel is most comfortable and the staff is professional and amiable. Great Titanium upgrade."

"Good location, direct train from airport. Check in ok but no nice upgrade despite my Ambassador status. Room small and bathroom smaller. Nice Elements mall next door"

"I had an excellent stay at W. Will definitely come back again. Very convenient location. You can literally get here from the HK airport without stepping foot outside at all. The Airport Express stops at Kowloon Station, which directly connects to W. There’s also the Elements Mall downstairs where you can get everything. Rooms are new and spotlessly clean. Very large room by HK standards and of course it comes with many amenities as can be expected from 5-star hotels. Breakfast selections are superb. Service here is the best part. Staff is friendly and helpful. I was also very happy to receive a room upgrade to stunning ocean view."

"We had such a great stay at the W Hotel in Hong Kong! We were treated like a family and after three nights stay, it was hard to leave. From the first day when we arrived until the last day before we departed, the experience was so nice and warm and welcoming. We arrived very early morning from Los Angeles when we got to the hotel it was only 8:30 AM! Karis at the check in front desk was really nice. She was able to find a room for us and we were able to check in six hours before our original time. The breakfast was outrageously good and had so many varieties to choose from. Jerry, the manager for the breakfast section, was very kind and introduced us to good cuisine. We really felt like home. Eric at the breakfast beverage section was very helpful as well. By the third morning, he already knew what we would like to have for the tea and put the teapot settled for us! The bartender Jacky was very friendly and kind as well. His old-fashioned is one of the best I have ever had. Then last but not least is the cleaning lady. She helped us to set up the third bed in our room. Even though we did not ask for cleaning the room, she asked if we needed any supplies replenishing every day. In general, the staff are very nice and kind. We feel very welcomed during our entire stay. We highly recommend this hotel if you visit Hong Kong and plan to stay in the West Kowloon area. We will definitely stay here again if we visit the area."
