PB hotel design editorial

Sands China's US$2.35 billion transformation of the Cotai Strip's largest hotel complex into The Londoner Macao stands as one of the most audacious rebranding exercises in contemporary hospitality — stripping back two former Sheraton Grand towers and rebuilding their identity from the ground up. The Londoner Grand, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Macao opened in 2025 as the flagship of that effort, with Peter Silling & Associates charged with translating Georgian London into a property of 2,405 rooms and suites. The exterior massing, designed by Gensler with Aedas as executive architect, sets modern tower forms against a theatrical neo-Gothic podium complete with a scaled replica of Big Ben visible in the nighttime skyline — the kind of full-commitment world-building that Cotai does without apology. Inside, Silling's interiors work the Mayfair townhouse idea hard: white-painted panel moldings, dark navy upholstered headboards trimmed in brass, geometric blue-on-ivory carpet, and framed London street photography above each bed. The effect is closer to a well-appointed Marylebone apartment than a casino-resort room, which is precisely the point. The all-day dining space takes the concept furthest, with richly arched mahogany millwork, teal banquette seating, rose-veined marble bar fronts, and herringbone parquet floors layered beneath clusters of brass pendant lights. BradyWilliams handled the Hampton Court private club, while a freeform rooftop pool terrace offers a rare moment of calm against the illuminated Cotai skyline.
