PB hotel design editorial

Planted on Cotai's reclaimed land between the Venetian and the Four Seasons, the Londoner Macao complex provides an unlikely backdrop for the St. Regis Macao — its Gothic Revival clock tower and glazed iron arrival hall visible in the aerial view, a piece of theatrical Victoriana rising from a territory that did not exist as ground until the Pearl River Delta was filled in the early 2000s. The St. Regis, which opened in 2015 as part of Sands China's integrated resort development, fills a 37-storey tower with 400 rooms and suites, its upper floors visible in the night shot with the brand's signature illuminated crown. Inside, the property navigates between the ceremonial register expected of St. Regis and the particular appetite of its Cotai clientele. Guest rooms carry wave-patterned Axminster carpets in teal and gold, warm walnut wall panels framing upholstered headboards inset with mother-of-pearl mosaic, and brass-detailed millwork throughout — a palette that references Chinese decorative tradition without resorting to literalism. The Astor Bar, the brand's signature drinking room, arrives here as a mahogany-panelled salon with deep green Chesterfield sofas, a coffered ceiling centred on a gilded geometric medallion, and a black-and-white chevron floor anchoring the room's Art Deco ambitions. The rooftop pool, its mosaic floor laid in concentric ripple patterns, frames the glittering outline of the Venetian across the strip.

"I had such an exceptionally phenomenal experience & stay at St. Regis Macao. I was treated like royalty from the moment I stepped off the Londoner Bus from the airport to the moment I checked out. All the staff and personnel extended their welcome with so much excitement, warmth, respect & professionalism. The service was outstanding, over & beyond expectations. The gentleman at check-in Chis, and the two battlers; Tibeau(Tibo) from France & one who brought my luggage were amazing & excellent. Great conversation & suggestions. I loved the room & I slept like a baby. Greatly appreciated. Joy at concierge gave me great advice on how best to navigate Macao including the best must visit places. She also surprised me with a beautiful gift (thank you Joy🤗👏😍. I really appreciate). Such a treasure. The Manor at St. Regis (Mediterranean Restaurant) Neal was fabulous. He attended to my every need & prepared the most delicious ginger concoction ever. Thank you Neal & thank you General Manager, Steward Wayne-Douglas for welcoming me and recommending the Oolong tea. Neal prepared it for me and I truly enjoyed it very, very much. When I was leaving there was a young lady and a gentleman who were so nice, friendly & very polite (sorry I forgot their names). They were very enthusiastic to help me navigate my way to Venetian & the gentleman ran after me to advise me to take the inside (mall) route so I don’t get burnt out with the heat. Everyone (including the ones I forgot their names) treated me like I’m the most important person on this planet. Greatly appreciated."

"Our stay at The St. Regis Macao was truly exceptional and exceeded every expectation. The location is fantastic—connected to The Londoner and other Cotai resorts, making it incredibly convenient to explore Macau. Despite being in the heart of all the action, the hotel was remarkably quiet, providing a peaceful retreat after a busy day. Everything was also spotlessly clean and impeccably maintained. From the moment we arrived until we checked out, every staff member made us feel genuinely welcomed. No matter where we were in the hotel, we were greeted with warm smiles and outstanding hospitality. Before our arrival, the Butler Team took the time to learn about our family's needs. They remembered that we were celebrating my niece Mia's 7th birthday and went above and beyond to make it special. They also carefully noted my daughter Iris's dairy, egg, and peanut allergies and worked closely with the culinary team to prepare safe dining options for her. As a parent, that level of care meant the world to us. To our surprise, we were upgraded from two standard double rooms to two beautiful suites. One of the suites overlooked the iconic Londoner clock tower, giving us one of the best views in Cotai. Waking up to that view every morning was unforgettable. The St. Regis Butler Service truly lived up to its world-class reputation. Every request was handled promptly, professionally, and with genuine warmth. It never felt like they were simply doing their job—they sincerely wanted our family to have an unforgettable experience. Breakfast at The Manor was another highlight. A special thank you to Yvonne and Cindy, who took wonderful care of our family every morning. They were attentive, friendly, and made sure Iris's food allergies were handled with great care. Their kindness and professionalism made breakfast a relaxing and enjoyable start to each day. Luxury hotels can have beautiful buildings, but what truly sets The St. Regis Macao apart is its people. Every interaction felt warm, personal, and heartfelt. Thank you to the entire St. Regis Macao team—especially the Butler Team, Yvonne, and Cindy—for creating one of the best hotel experiences our family has ever had. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend The St. Regis Macao to anyone visiting Macau."

"I stayed at The St. Regis Macao last year to celebrate my birthday, expecting the legendary luxury service the brand is known for. Instead, I left deeply disappointed and frustrated. Hostile and Passive-Aggressive Front Desk: The check-in experience set a terrible tone for the entire stay. The front desk staff were incredibly unfriendly, mean, and highly passive-aggressive. Instead of making me feel welcomed—especially on my birthday—they spoke to me in a condescending, sarcastic manner. It was completely unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Inedible Restaurant Food & Indifferent Staff: We dined at the hotel restaurant, where our waiter recommended a pork dish. It was a complete disaster. The pork was so incredibly tough and dry that it was literally impossible to chew. We had to leave almost the entire plate untouched because it was simply inedible. What made it worse was the sheer indifference of the staff; despite clearing away a virtually untouched plate, the waiter didn’t even bother to ask why we didn't eat it or if there was an issue with the food. Verdict: The St. Regis Macao severely lacks the basic training and hospitality standards expected of a five-star luxury hotel. I will not be returning, and I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you want to be treated with basic respect."

"The St. Regis Macau continues to impress—this was my third stay, and it remains one of the finest hotels I have experienced anywhere. The facilities are excellent, and the location makes navigating the Cotai Strip very convenient. Dining at The Manor is consistently strong and exactly what you would expect from a top-tier property. The rooms are spacious well equipped and very clean. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the service. From being greeted by name, to the warm welcome on arrival, to the seamless in-room check-in, the team delivers a level of attentiveness that goes beyond typical five-star standards. It is the accumulation of many small, thoughtful touches that makes the experience stand out. A special mention to Joy from the Concierge team—friendly, responsive, and always ready to assist. She exemplifies the service culture of the hotel. This level of consistency does not happen by chance. Credit is clearly due to the General Manager and leadership team for maintaining such high standards across every visit."
