PB hotel design editorial

At the crown of the China World Trade Center Tower III — a 330-metre curtain-wall tower that dominated Beijing's CBD skyline when it completed in 2009 — Park Hyatt Beijing was fitted into the upper floors of one of the tallest buildings in the capital, with interiors by Remedios Simon Design that translate the tower's corporate ambition into something considerably more considered. The rooms carry a palette of warm celadon greens, pale oak, and brushed brass, the headboard panels upholstered in panels that echo traditional Chinese lacquerwork without resorting to ornament. Floor-to-ceiling glazing turns the CBD's nightly theatre of illuminated towers — Rem Koolhaas's CCTV headquarters visible on the middle distance — into something close to a living installation. The sky-level pool, sheltered beneath a vaulted glazed barrel vault of white-painted steel, sits high enough above the city that the water's surface reflects only sky and structure, creating an atmosphere closer to a contemplative bath house than a hotel fitness facility. The restaurant above deploys a greenhouse logic — full-height glass ceiling, slender birch trees planted between tables, raw volcanic stone cladding one wall — that manages to feel genuinely sylvan despite sitting some two hundred metres above Chang'an Avenue. With 237 rooms spread across 20 floors of the tower, the hotel maintains a density low enough to keep the corridors quiet, which in Beijing's Chaoyang District counts as a minor architectural achievement in itself.

"We had a wonderful stay here while visiting Beijing with my family. The hotel is very well located in the Central Business District and is conveniently connected to a large shopping mall with plenty of shops and great restaurants, which made everything very easy for our trip. We chose this hotel as our base while visiting the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall, and it worked out very well. The location was convenient, the suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the breakfast offerings were excellent, even though our sightseeing schedule was so tight that we did not get to enjoy them as much as we would have liked. We also had a wonderful meal at the Chinese restaurant on the lobby level. The food was delicious and felt authentically Chinese, with excellent flavors and careful preparation. It was a very enjoyable dining experience for our family and added even more to the overall quality of our stay. What truly made the stay stand out, however, was the service. The staff were outstanding and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our visit. Legorie, in particular, was exceptional. She was hospitable, professional, and incredibly attentive. We were especially grateful that she was able to confirm our Suite Upgrade Award months before our stay. She also anticipated our family’s needs, shared helpful recommendations for sightseeing in Beijing, and went above and beyond to assist us. One evening, when we found ourselves stranded at a restaurant after dinner, she kindly helped arrange a cab for us and even paid the fare upfront, which I later reimbursed. The hotel also thoughtfully provided a complimentary bottle of wine for my wife’s birthday, which we greatly appreciated. Overall, this was a memorable stay, and we would gladly return."

"Although no longer a new hotel, the design is timeless and the hardware is maintained to a high standard. The rooms have a warm, residential ambience (the wooden window shutters are a particularly homely touch) and are ideal both for working (with a large desk and comfortable chair) and relaxing. The square bathtub is enormous and the shower has very strong water pressure. Housekeeping (who have excellent attention to detail) and room service staff in particular are genuine and friendly. The Chinese selection on the room service menu is slightly more limited than I remember from previous visits, but food quality remains outstanding."

"Great location and beautiful hotel. It was first visit to Beijing and don't think we would stay anywhere else. Huge plus to be at subway station and above a shopping center with additional dining options."

"Great location with stunning views from the rooms, restaurants and even the washrooms. Close to the China World Mall which is accessible directly via underground passages. The reception is in the 63rd floor, the bar and breakfast area even higher. Everything is in top notch condition and very luxurious."
