PB hotel design editorial

Soaring above Beijing's Chaoyang district from within the mixed-use Jing Guang Centre Otto development, a tapered glass tower designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox provides the vertical address for Rosewood Beijing, which opened in 2014 across 372 rooms and suites spread over the lower floors of the complex. The exterior sequence visible from the arrival courtyard sets the hotel's tonal argument immediately: dark textured stone cladding laid in an irregular, almost pixelated pattern gives way to warm timber pergola structures overhead, the two materials establishing a dialogue between Beijing's classical material culture and a contemporary commercial ambition. That same conversation continues inside. The interiors, developed in collaboration with HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates alongside contributions from other design teams across the property's various spaces, move between registers with considerable range. Guest rooms in the standard category deploy dark-stained wood paneling, tufted tan leather day beds, and amber-framed mirror apertures to achieve a compressed but considered residential warmth. The suites, by contrast, open onto planted terraces through floor-to-ceiling glazing, their ceilings finished in patinated bronze geometric panels above pale stone floors — more contemplative, more spare. The restaurant draws its atmosphere from lacquered dark timber screens inset with gold-leaf panels and oversized drum pendants in wrapped rattan, while the indoor pool, sheltered beneath an exposed steel and glass roof structure, centers on a circular stone sculpture rising from green-tiled water, the surrounding planting dense enough to suggest a garden rather than a hotel amenity floor.

"I recently stayed at Rosewood Beijing, and it was a memorable experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable—warm welcomes, attentive staff, and a level of personalization that made me feel like a valued guest throughout my stay. The rooms were fantastic: elegantly appointed, spacious, and radiating quiet luxury. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the decor was refined and chic, and the marble bathrooms along with thoughtful amenities created a serene experience. The views of the city added to the sense of indulgence, making it easy to unwind after a busy day. Dining at the hotel was equally superb, with a range of options that showcase both Chinese and international flavors. The Sense, A Rosewood Spa offered a tranquil retreat—the treatments were expertly administered, the atmosphere was calm, and the facilities felt luxurious and well-maintained. Overall, Rosewood Beijing is a top-tier choice for anyone seeking outstanding service, exceptional cuisine, beautiful rooms, and a restorative spa experience. I would highly recommend it and would gladly return."

"After a great experience at Rosewood Guangzhou we decided to stay at Rosewood on our trip to Beijing in March. The hotel is older than the one in Guangzhou’s and located in central location. The service was of the highest standard in terms of attention of every staff in meeting our needs. Eg a lobby staff is always there to assist in ensuring that our Didi driver finds his way to our pickup. Our room was very spacious and had a full glass window view that was impressive on arrival even though the view was of massive traffic on Ring road 3. We recommend having Beijing duck in the Country Kitchen restaurant instead of looking around for the delicacy elsewhere. We had it twice. Mei Bar was also my nightly hangout for live music. The band was very good and ambience had good vibes. Check out Rosewood whether for accomodation or for dining and drinks."

"Gorgeously spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. Neutral scents. Wide walk in wardrobe and luxury shower/bath. Mini bar stocked with complementary glass bottles of water. Amazing breakfast with the best fluffy pancakes. The viral Rosewood flan you can't get enough of in their cafe downstairs. Choice of amazing restaurants for lunch and dinner. Everything is awesome. Location-wise, not much to do within walking distance so you'll need to get a Didi to go anywhere, but also you could comfortably spend a lot of time just staying in."

"Had a lunch at The House of Dynasties and were charged RMB ¥336 for 2 bottles of sparkling mineral water without prior notice nor explanation. Such service behaviour is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable in a reputable five-star hotel - Charging a EUR €3-4 worth sparkling water at EUR €20. If this were communicated upfront without notice."

"I had a very pleasant stay at Rosewood Beijing. The overall experience was excellent, with elegant surroundings, a comfortable room, and attentive service throughout my stay. I was especially impressed by the hotel’s strong attention to environmental protection and sustainability. It is clear that the hotel places real value on being environmentally conscious, which made the experience even more meaningful and appreciated. I would also like to especially recognize the lounge team, particularly Vincent, Joyce, and Jennifer. Their service was outstanding. They were warm, professional, and incredibly helpful throughout my stay. They offered thoughtful assistance on many occasions and made me feel genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. Their kindness, efficiency, and attention to detail made a strong impression and truly elevated the overall experience."
