Two tectonic languages collide at the entrance to The PuXuan Hotel and Spa: a lower plinth clad in dark diamond-patterned ceramic tile, its surface punctured by circular perforations in a rhythm drawn from traditional Chinese lattice screens, topped by a cantilevered upper volume wrapped in pale rectangular ceramic panels that carry the geometry of hutong courtyard brickwork into an entirely contemporary register. The architecture, designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates, sits on Wangfujing — Beijing's most historically charged commercial thoroughfare — and manages the considerable feat of feeling rooted without resorting to pastiche. A solitary trained pine at the building's base, visible in the exterior photographs, reinforces the Japanese-influenced sensibility that runs through Kuma's practice, though the material grammar here draws more from northern Chinese craft traditions than from any imported vocabulary. Inside, the interiors — handled by CCD (Cheng Chung Design) — translate that same discipline into warm timber paneling, coffered ceilings, and rooms furnished with dark-framed chairs whose proportions echo mid-century Chinese furniture. Display niches in the guest suites hold celadon-glazed vessels against woven wall panels, while the bar area counterpoints the restraint elsewhere with copper-toned shelving, globe pendant lights in frosted glass, and dark slatted ceilings that compress the atmosphere into something closer to a private library than a hotel lounge. The dining room, with its velvet tub chairs arranged around marble-topped tables and a gallery of Chinese oil paintings anchoring the rear wall, carries the whole property's central argument: that contemporary luxury and deep cultural specificity are not competing propositions.

"I fortunately stayed at The PuXuan Hotel and Spa over a two-day business trip to the capital city. Check-in was very smooth, and I loved the quiet, understated feel throughout the property. The room had all the luxury touches and felt like a space where I could rest and recover well. My morning run around the hotel was such a treat, exploring Beihai Park and the Forbidden City. Breakfast was absolutely perfect, combining an à la carte menu with a buffet offering both Western and Beijing classics. The PuXuan is an extraordinary oasis in the heart of Beijing, and a favorite of mine."

"A very quiet luxury hotel overlooking the Forbidden City. Is located conveniently above the National Art Museum Subway Line 8 Key sharing during the stay: * staff at Conceirge are very attentive and helpful * stayed at room 833, is very clean and overlooking the Forbidden City * hotel provides a pair of scissor, it shows attention to details * things are very well replenished eg water and amenities * daily evening turndown comes with little souvenirs * water from shower head is strong and bathroom is spacious * ground floor concierge very attentive; 5 stars * reception team at level L is great, but is slight away from guest lifts and blocked by a pillar; so is hard to meet and greet guests Breakfast at Rive Gauche was impressive, buffet on a-la-carte menu and on table spread. Staff and Manager Jacky are very friendly and made us feel at home; he even remembered what I wanted yesterday for breakfast and so comfortably sharing on China history and the monuments around the hotel"

"One of the best hotels in Beijing! The PuXuan Hotel and Spais a serene luxury oasis right next to the Forbidden City and Wangfujing. The lobby is stunning modern, warm, with a beautiful green courtyard that feels peaceful amid the city buzz. The Lobby Lounge is perfect for coffee, tea, or cocktails cozy, elegant, and relaxing. Rive Gauche (French restaurant & bar) delivers excellent modern French cuisine refined, flavorful, and beautifully presented.Breakfasts are outstanding too. Fu Chun Ju (Michelin-starred Chinese) offers top-tier Cantonese dishes, fresh and exquisite. Service is flawless: reception is friendly, efficient, and speaks great English. Staff everywhere is attentive yet discreet — true luxury hospitality. Spacious, stylish rooms with comfy beds and great views (try for Forbidden City). Highly recommend — 10/10! Will definitely return. ❤️"
