PB hotel design editorial

Anchoring the glassy corporate landscape of Beijing's Financial Street extension in Chaoyang, a limestone-clad tower rising seventeen floors presents the kind of classically inflected massing that the Ritz-Carlton brand deployed across its Asian openings of the mid-2000s — formal, symmetrical, warm-lit at the base, with a porte-cochère framed by vertical pilasters that signal arrival before you step through the doors. The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street opened in 2006 across from its sister property, and this Chaoyang outpost followed, its facade grid of recessed windows and cream stone carrying an authority that feels closer to postmodern civic architecture than conventional hotel building. Inside, the interiors work a language of darkened mahogany four-poster beds, damask-patterned wallcovering in amber and ivory, pleated silk lampshades, and crystal table lamps with gilded bases — a vocabulary that draws from English country house precedent filtered through the formal expectations of Beijing's international business traveller. Draped swag valances frame views across the district's glass curtain walls, a collision of registers the rooms make no attempt to resolve. The dining spaces shift register entirely: backlit honey onyx panels glow against polished dark timber floors, and cascading crystal bead columns serve as room dividers, trading the bedroom's Georgian warmth for something considerably more contemporary. The indoor pool level, lined in limestone-clad columns with wall sconces and mosaic-tiled water, completes a property that moves between multiple design idioms with the confidence, if not always the coherence, of a major international address.

"I stayed at The Ritz Carlton Beijing for two nights on a business trip. The arrival was a great start. Melissa, Tina and Amily welcomed me right away and helped me to the room after a quick check in. The suite was comfortable, easy to use and had a beautiful view of the city. I spent some time in the Executive Lounge and enjoyed a quiet afternoon tea. Nicole was very helpful and made the experience positive. The fitness centre had everything I needed. The service there was excellent and I could focus on a good workout. Breakfast at the buffet restaurant was another highlight. Leander took good care of me and made the start of the day very easy. Daisy and Ranky handled my checkout early in the morning. They made it smooth and even prepared a small breakfast I could take with me on the way to the airport. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and I felt looked after by the team throughout the visit. I could see the influence of General Manager Alfonso in how the place runs. I look forward to coming back!"

"We stayed here with a large group from our Viking cruise. This is a top-tier hotel with excellent service, amenities, and all you would expect from a Ritz-Carlton. Our room was beautiful with a well-appointed bathroom and water bottles included. Our group had the buffet breakfast and dinner included, and my husband enjoyed the wide array of different cuisines offered, including both Chinese and Western dishes, and an extensive seafood bar. I have celiac disease, and I notified them in advance of my dietary requirements. After some initial confusion, the chef spoke with me directly and then arranged for safe food for me during my stay, as well as generous food for me to take for lunch (since I cannot eat local food with celiac disease). Overall, excellent hotel with outstanding service."

"I have stayed at the ritz calrton over ten times already and everytime it has been a wonderful experience with the nicely decorated rooms and attentive and efficient service. This time I decided to have dinner at their executive lounge. Whilst grabbing food off the extensive buffet, I accidentally used the same serving spoon to pick up both a beef based dish and a mutton based dish. Coincidentally the chef was standing next to me at the time and he very apologetically reminded me that I should not use the same utensils to pick up a beef based and lamb based food at the same time as some people have religious reasons and may not consume one of them. I apologized for my mistake but he was very apologetic about having to point out my error in which he was completely in the right. Very impressed with the chefs professionalism and knowledge of international customs. Little actions like these goes to show the rigorous training and standards that the staff go through and you know you will be well looked after staying at this hotel"

"We were here for a special culinary journey tailor made for our guests. The hotel was excellent with providing support in advance of our event that took in three different locations around the hotel. Messages were deal with promptly and professionally. A big shout out to Victor Wang and Jun Ming. On the night of the event, Chef Billy and his team did a fabulous job presenting dishes of high quality and visual appeal. The Sea bass in particular was beautiful. I also want to mention the Executive Pastry Chef, Shakira, whose tiramisu was so unique. Lastly, the ladies and gentlemen serving our dishes and drinks really took service up a notch. Thank you to everyone."
