PB hotel design editorial

Fitted into the upper floors of Chengdu's landmark Hang Lung Plaza mixed-use tower on Chun Xi Road — the city's most commercially charged retail corridor — Niccolo Chengdu sets a studied quietness against the vertical ambition of its host building. The entry facade, visible in the images, is dressed in a fine corrugated glass screen that diffuses the tower's reflective curtain wall into something more textile in character, paired with manicured bonsai specimens flanking revolving doors in a gesture that tempers corporate scale with considered detail. Inside, the interiors carry the signature of the Niccolo brand's house aesthetic: oak-toned wall panelling with recessed LED coves framing upholstered headboards, herringbone and geometric-patterned carpets in taupe and grey, and floor-to-ceiling glazing that turns Chengdu's dense skyline — the Tianfu TV Tower visible on the horizon — into wallpaper of its own. The bar departs from this restraint entirely, leaning into a darker palette of deep walnut joinery, red leather wingback chairs, and large-format fashion photography that brings the energy of a late-night members' club. The indoor pool, clad in smooth limestone-toned concrete with floor-to-ceiling glass on the city-facing elevation, achieves the kind of mineral austerity that recalls Milanese spa design more than Chinese hospitality convention. The hotel holds around 230 rooms across its high-rise floors, and manages the considerable challenge of making a tower address feel, from within, genuinely intimate.

"Had a wonderful stay at Niccolo Chengdu in mid-April for business trip. This was my first trip to Chengdu, but not my first stay at Niccolo. Having stayed at Niccolo Changsha and Suzhou before, I can say that Niccolo Chengdu is nothing short of another contemporary chic hotel – yet with even more fashionable elements, art, and decor. One standout feature: two "Beijing Girls" paintings by renowned modern artist Zhang Xiangming. One is on the 3rd floor lobby, and the other is at the end of the hallway on the 2nd floor by the Chinese restaurant. Fun fact- Niccolo Chengdu is the only Niccolo hotel that has a Chinese restaurant – and with two "Beijing Girl" canvases. I've taken photos of the paintings and now have 4 out of 5 Beijing Girl– just missing Niccolo Chongqing's. My stay began seven days before arrival when I received a welcome email from the hotel. A steamer was set up in my room before I arrived as requested. My room was ready upon check-in, which was a huge relief after a long 1.5-hour ride from TFU Airport. The hotel itself is located in the very heart of Chengdu City, it’s close to everything but sometimes can be very difficult to grab a didi in rainy days. My room is spacious and it offered a stunning view overlooking Taikoo Li – for first-timers like me, it's a must-try! The Niccolo room was beautifully appointed with a Laifen hairdryer. The bed was comfortable, and pillow options were available – I requested a latex pillow on my second night. A lint roller was also provided after I mentioned it to a room attendant I happened to meet in the hallway. The staff were always smiling and greeting guests warmly. The taste of My stay at Niccolo Chengdu was like having a triple-scoop ice cream – vanilla, chocolate, and matcha: • Vanilla – The hotel itself: prime location and facilities, with fashionable luxury elements from IFS (the mall connected to the hotel, right downstairs from my room). • Chocolate – The vibrant, bustling Taikoo Li shopping district just across the street. • Matcha – My personal favorite: the people I met in Chengdu. General Manager Robert, Terry Zheng Director of Rooms, Michelle and Alice at Reception, Sally and Cindy from Housekeeping, Andrew from Security, Lee at Restaurant, and Kevin and Michelle from Sales. They were not only welcoming but also paid attention to meticulous details, making sure both my stay and conference were well taken care of from start to finish. Shame that I did not have time to use the gym facility nor did I have breakfast at Niccolo Chengdu – but I'll leave that for next time. Having stayed at Niccolo Changsha and Suzhou, I can now add Chengdu to my collection. Two more Niccolos to go😊"

"After travelling through Shanghai, Beijing and Xi’an, our two-night stay at Niccolo Chengdu was exactly what we needed. Being able to step straight out onto Chunxi Road was a real luxury. The kids loved the shops, bright lights, and vibrant energy of the area. Whether you’re in the mood for hot pot or Van Cleef & Arpels, everything is right on your doorstep. The views from the 25th floor were stunning and gave a great sense of the city skyline. Service throughout the hotel was impeccable - warm, polished, and consistently attentive. We genuinely have no complaints at all and very much look forward to returning soon."

"Niccolo Chengdu delivered amazing service from start to finish – from the pre-arrival email and seamless airport transfer to the professional front desk, bright and artsy decor, and perfect location opposite Taikoo Li with branded boutiques. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained (including properly draining sinks and showers, which is rare even at 5-star hotels). However, our stay was marred by the elevators – often a 15–20 minute wait, made worse by multiple events (a wine event, Ralph Lauren, etc.) during our stay. Event attendees crowded the lobby, drop-off point, and elevators, leading to packed, slow rides and sometimes sharing tight spaces with people reeking of alcohol. We still loved Niccolo, but we hope the hotel would ensure guest experience isn't compromised by events. For travelers coming from afar, these glitches can really dampen an otherwise flawless stay."
