PB hotel design editorial

Haikou's position as the gateway to China's tropical island province gives The Langham Haikou an unusual brief: to deliver the brand's signature European classicism against a backdrop of South China Sea light and the lush vegetation of Hainan's northern coast. The porte-cochère visible in the images captures this ambition clearly — curved glass pavilions and steel-framed canopy structures filter the tropical sun over herringbone-patterned granite paving, while a pale pink London taxi parked beneath the overhang signals the brand's Anglo heritage with deliberate wit. The tower rises through Longhua district, its upper-floor infinity pool terrace edged in limestone balustrades and dark emperador marble columns looking out across the Nandu River estuary toward open water. Inside, the interiors follow the refined neoclassical language that Langham properties have maintained across their portfolio since the brand's revival. Guest rooms are composed around tray ceilings with Swarovski crystal drum chandeliers, white-painted panel mouldings, upholstered headboards in pale taupe, and Carrara marble nightstands — a palette of cream, grey, and warm silver that keeps each room feeling more like a well-considered private apartment than a hotel room. The dining spaces move into more expressive territory: green onyx panels etched with botanical motifs, mosaic feature walls in blue-grey iridescent tile, and brass geometric pendant lights suspend above leather tub chairs and white marble tabletops, with floor-to-ceiling windows drawing the sprawling cityscape into the room.

The Langham, Haikou Reviews

"This is our second stay at the hotel. Rooms are decorated with lots (and lots) of marble. Feels very luxurious. The floor plan was a bit cramped -- our room had an island cabinet in what we thought was an awkward place. Room floors are a combination of carpet and marble. The carpet in our room could use a good wet vac since there were some old stains on it. This is still one of the cleanest hotels in the area. The cleaning staff was enthusiastic and overall wonderful. Haikou now has many upscale hotels now but most locations aren't as central as this property. The property is located across a mall with easy access to shopping and food and in "Guomao" area. Service was overall fast, efficient, and left us with a good impression. Some of the hotel guests smoked in the elevators. I'm not sure if the hotel has any control over this, but our experience would've been better if guests were more mindful. Food - I would recommend guests eat across the street at the mall. With the exception of the breakfast buffet, the food at this hotel is generally overpriced. Tang court upstairs is definitely not the Tang Court you would find in Hong Kong. Service is great, however, lowered expectations would make for a great dining experience."

"This is our first trip to Haikou, although we have been to Sanya a few times. The Langham Haikou is conveniently located, there are shopping malls, shops and restaurants nearby. The swimming pool is clean with nice view, esp. for taking photos. It definitely has a resort feel. All the staff provide excellent services, including Concierge and Front Office. Special thanks to Miss Julie Wang who is always helpful and caring in all aspects, and she upgraded us to a sea view room with stunning view! Deeply appreciated! The room is spacious and cozy, very comfortable. We will come back to stay again in the near future."

"Conveniently located hotel next to a huge mall. The room was very comfortable and the night view is amazing. Special thanks to Mr Joey for the warm & professional welcome and for making the check in process seamless. Breakfast was OK, a good spread to start the day off. I'd definitely return again."
