PB hotel design editorial

Cradled within the forested hills of Nanjing's Jiangning District, where low mountain ridges fold into bamboo-dense valleys south of the city, this resort compound was conceived as a dialogue between landscape and architecture rather than a building imposed upon terrain. The Nanjing Jiangning Autograph Collection spreads across the site in a low horizontal campus — corten steel volumes alongside concrete cylinders and timber-screened facades visible in the aerial view — the massing deliberately broken into fragments so that greenery penetrates every courtyard and corridor. Dense bamboo groves push against the guest room blocks, blurring the boundary between cultivated interior and wild hillside. The interiors shift register sharply depending on where you find yourself. Guest rooms deploy pale linen-toned timber panelling across the full wall plane, with dark walnut bed frames, geometric rugs anchored by terracotta arcs, and industrial-inflected pendant lights in glass and blackened steel — a palette of restrained warmth that keeps the eye moving to the bamboo visible through floor-to-ceiling glazing. The restaurant takes a bolder approach: a rippling plaster vault ceiling, deep rosso levanto marble banquettes, copper-pipe detailing along the open kitchen frame, and woven rattan dining chairs with burgundy leather seats. The spa, perhaps the most atmospheric volume in the property, runs beneath a sequence of recurring plaster arches that recede over an aquamarine mosaic pool, blown-glass sculptural forms resting at the water's edge like geological specimens retrieved from the surrounding hills.

Nanjing, Jiangning, Autograph Collection Reviews

"We had a lovely romantic getaway weekend at the Autograph collection in Nanjing. It's located in a wonderful area with plenty of walking activities, cable cars, scenic views, and sunny hills. The Autograph is so unique and welcoming in design. The bar is steampunk theme with plenty of unique drinks. The restaurant there provided an intimate romantic atmosphere to have our dinner date, with delicious steaks, wine, and bread. There was a bathtub on the balcony that room service would start for us so we could have a full bath to come back to. Service was always prompt and professional, and the area provided many activities for our getaway. Absolutely would go again and experience it all over!"

"Tough one to rate. In the wins column it’s a brand new, stylish, and unique property with a good restaurant/breakfast, quality gym, swish rooms, and very nice hot spring pool in the basement. On the other hand it’s price point is quite high, the layout of the place is like a 3-dimensional maze, and our bed was not the most comfortable. The staff were very nice, but communication in languages other than Mandarin was often a challenge (I mean, it is China!). I suppose the other issue is that there are three other five-star hotels within a short walk, all competing against each other, each with some amenities the others don’t have. Overall, our stay was fine, probably a little too pricey, and the expo itself is a little underwhelming. The indoor hot spring pool might set this place apart, but beyond that it’s a toss up between the Westin (maybe more family friendly), the Radisson (maybe more value for money), and the Banyan Tree (for a splash out)."

"We stayed two nights during LNY. We had relaxing time, staffs are very helpful especially at the restaurant. There was no recognition for titanium member. Pros Great location, good indoor hot spring, very friendly staffs, clean, good restaurant and cafe. Cons Limited breakfast menu, no lobby lounge or bar - the bar opens at 5:30pm, common areas are very cold."
