PB hotel design editorial

Spread across a forested hillside where the Siming Mountains slope toward the edge of Dongqian Lake — Zhejiang province's largest freshwater lake and a landscape that has drawn Chinese painters and scholars for centuries — Cordis Dongqian Lake Ningbo translates that contemplative tradition into a low-rise resort campus of dark-tiled pitched roofs and whitewashed garden walls that echo the vernacular architecture of the surrounding villages without mimicking it. The aerial view reveals how carefully the property has been threaded between the treeline and the lake shore, its pavilion-style blocks stepping down the topography in a rhythm that preserves the mountain backdrop rather than competing with it. Orchards and cultivated terraces occupy the lower slopes, lending the grounds the feeling of a working landscape rather than a managed resort. Inside, the rooms follow a calm, restrained logic: pale panelled headboard walls in creamy lacquer, warm oak flooring and walnut joinery, navy-upholstered bedheads, and horizontal ink-wash scrolls above the beds that distill the lake scenery into a single brushstroke. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors open onto timber-screened balconies framing views across the water and hills beyond. The indoor pool enclosure pairs grey slate flooring and slatted cedar screens against tall garden-facing windows — a material conversation between the robustness of stone and the warmth of timber that runs through the entire property. The restaurant terrace, furnished with spindle-back teak chairs and set against a classical scholar's garden of rockery and ornamental pond, makes the outdoor dining feel like an extension of the landscape itself.
