Sanya is still a relatively unfamiliar destination for many Koreans. One of the main reasons is the language barrier, which can make travelers hesitant. I had the same concern before this trip, but Banyan Tree Sanya turned out to be a pleasant surprise that addressed most of those worries. As a Platinum member of both Marriott and Accor, I had many options to choose from. I considered JW Marriott, Raffles, and Banyan Tree, and ultimately chose Banyan Tree for its private pool villa concept. Although you can’t see the ocean from the room, a short walk takes you to the resort’s private beach, where the emerald waters of the South China Sea are absolutely stunning. Thankfully, it turned out to be smoother than expected. I was able to coordinate everything in advance—room preferences, baby crib setup, and afternoon tea reservations—via email with Katrina Sun. Upon arrival, Mia helped us with the check-in and continued to assist us throughout our stay using WeChat, almost like a private butler. Although our communication wasn’t perfect, the staff’s sincere and thoughtful service made all the difference. Most guests at the resort are Chinese, so it’s easy for foreign travelers to feel a bit isolated. That’s why I truly appreciated the extra effort made through WeChat.
