PB hotel design editorial

Rising from the forest edge of Century Park in Pudong, a cluster of dark-curtain-walled towers anchors Kerry Hotel Pudong Shanghai to one of the district's most quietly desirable addresses — far enough from the Lujiazui financial canyon to feel calm, close enough to read the Oriental Pearl Tower from the upper floors. The hotel's 32-storey tower, part of the larger Kerry Parkside mixed-use development, holds 574 guest rooms and carries the characteristic Shangri-La group logic of generous proportions and warm material layering applied to a thoroughly contemporary frame. The interiors work through a palette of dark-stained walnut panelling, honey-toned oak joinery, and cream floral-patterned carpets that give the rooms a composed, residential quality — tray ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glazing framing park and city views in equal measure. Refreshed guest rooms show quilted leather headboards in pale grey, studded brass-finish credenzas, and velvet lounge chairs placed to face the skyline, a scheme with more warmth and personality than the hotel's original darker fit-out visible in earlier room photographs. The bar and lounge deploys curved plasterwork ceiling coffers over a textured white faceted bar counter, dark timber slatted screens dividing seating zones with a quiet rhythm. The indoor pool hall, lined with raw timber columns and stone-tiled deck, extends toward full-height glazing overlooking the park — a genuinely generous leisure facility by any measure.

"Kerry Pudong is by far the best hotel in Shanghai and probably in China, for its price range. The hotel is grand, clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and well trained. Facilities are spectacular, especially the gym which spans 6,000m2 and even includes a RPM room. Kerry’s gym can compete head to head with the best gym chains globally. This is the most impressive gym within the Shangri-La Group, which already sets a high bar. The club lounge is amazing. Staff are very helpful and friendly. It’s spacious and doesn’t feel crowded even during peak hours. The evening cocktails and dinner spread is so impressive that it resembles at least half a buffet - at least 20 hot dishes and a full noodle bar. The food quality is very high, on par with Shangrila buffets. The lounge is family friendly without much disturbance to other guests. The breakfast spread on the ground floor is very elaborate, with fresh produce and a clean environment. The breakfast at the club lounge is very good too with similar offering. Overall, Kerry Pudong really stands out, even amongst the best run 5-star hotels in China - a high bar. Clean, grand, best in class facilities and a superb club lounge at a very reasonable price range, makes it the top hotel for me."

"We had a great stay at the Kerry Hotel Pudong in room 2604 with access to the Club lounge. The hotel staff were kind and professional from the moment we checked in on the 3rd floor until the moment we checked out. The staff in the Club lounge were fluent in Mandarin and English and most of the people we interacted with in other parts of the hotel spoke reasonably good English which is a plus for foreign travelers. The room was clean and well maintained with comfortable seating and bedding as well as a large bathroom with a spacious tub and shower. The TV offered a variety of channels in China and across Asia with a few English channels. The view from the room looked out across Pudong with Puxi off in the distance. There was traffic in the streets outside the hotel, but the room was very quiet during the day and at night. The food in the Club lounge as well as in the hotel restaurants was quite good with a nice selection of western and Asian foods to choose from. There are a variety of shops and restaurants in the mall underneath the hotel and plenty more just a short subway ride away. The hotel is located on top of a shopping mall with direct access from the line 7 subway station. The hotel is 5 minutes (1 stop) away from Longyang Road Station with convenient transfers to the MagLev train that goes to the Pudong Airport as well as Line 2, 16 and 18 that will take you to other parts of the city. You can take line 2 to both airports as well but the subway takes considerably longer than the high-speed maglev train. There is a large park across the street from the hotel with a small lake, walking trails and access to the Science and Technology Museum which is interesting for adults and kids alike. The hotel is also right next to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre if you happen to be here for a trade show or convention. We will definitely stay at the hotel again and would recommend it for both leisure and business travelers."
