"We had a wonderful 5-night stay at W Shanghai. Our room had an amazing view of The Bund, which was especially spectacular at night! While the hotel is a little farther from some of the main tourist attractions, getting around was very easy and convenient with DiDi. One of the highlights of our stay was definitely the breakfast. As an Asian living in Europe, I really appreciated the wide variety of choices, especially the live-cooking stations. The beef noodle soup was absolutely delicious and quickly became my favorite! I also want to give a special shoutout to the Concierge team. Blake warmly welcomed our family upon arrival, remembered our names, and always greeted us whenever he saw us. Timmy Tang was also incredibly patient with all my questions and went above and beyond to help me with restaurant reservations, even on his day off. Their genuine hospitality really made our stay extra special. We truly enjoyed our time at W Shanghai and would happily return in the future. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable!"

"I paid a premium to stay at the W Shanghai specifically for the brand's signature luxury, high-energy, social pool lifestyle. What I actually received was an incredibly frustrating, poorly managed experience that felt more like a chaotic family resort than a 5-star international hotel.While the room itself is nice enough, it absolutely does not compensate for missing out on the iconic social pool bar experience that W Hotels promise globally. The W brand needs to do a significantly better job of explicitly marketing that this specific hotel is NOT like other W Hotels. The fact that you cannot experience a true poolside bar here feels completely hidden from guests during booking—tucked away as a tiny, obscure line on their website, which is deeply misleading.The check-in process was an absolute nightmare. The lobby was entirely overrun, and I had children literally running all over me while the front desk struggled to manage the chaos. The family-hotel atmosphere completely ruins the chic vibe the brand falsely advertises. To make matters worse, the staff’s English proficiency is shockingly poor for an international property of this tier. Throughout my stay, staff members inexplicably and repeatedly called me by my middle name for no reason.This communication barrier turned basic room requests into an exhausting ordeal. This morning, it took three separate calls over the course of an entire hour just to get a simple hair straightener delivered to my room. When front desk staff became confused by basic English requests, they simply gave up and started speaking Mandarin to me—despite me making it explicitly clear that I do not speak the language.The absolute breaking point, however, is the pool layout and its ridiculous restrictions. You cannot enjoy a cocktail or a light meal by the water because of strict food and beverage bans. The outdoor pool is physically cut off from the adjacent WET Bar by a massive glass wall. To even access the deck, you are forced through an internal obstacle course that funnels you under a motion-activated overhead shower, forcing you to get your hair wet just to step outside to lounge or take photos. The staff cannot even explain these absurd, unadvertised rules to international guests in English.I was actively planning to book a luxury stay at the W Sydney later this year specifically to experience their WET Deck pool. However, this disastrous, low-tier experience in Shanghai has left such a terrible taste in my mouth that I am now heavily reconsidering whether I will ever spend my money with the W brand again. Management severely needs to retrain their staff, address their chaotic check-in environment, and stop misleading international travelers with false brand expectations."

"Fabulous hotel for a stay in Shanghai. We booked a Pearl Tower View room and loved it. Great location and friendly and super helpful staff. Best breakfast. The room itself was fabulous, too. The airco was quiet and the bed was huge and unbelievably comfortable. We had a lot of very nice hotel rooms during our trip to China but this was our favourite."

"Excellent room view, Breakfast was decent, but rather pricey at more than 250CNY Room condition can be improved, although service recovery wasn't proactively offered. Excellent service especially by breakfast staff. Unfortunately none of the staff are wearing nametags so we dont know who they are. Room attendant 郭传琴/郭佳秦 also very warm and friendly. Wayne Zheng, Director of Rooms helped us on our onward journey and even gave us suggestions for places to visit, and the staff checking us in were also very helpful and patient and check-in was efficient and we were also given a welcome drink on arrival"

Quite simply, this is one of the most incredible hotel properties I have ever experienced. Like all great W Hotels, the property tells a story. The theme of W Shanghai beautifully blends Old Shanghai with New Shanghai, creating a hotel that feels both culturally connected and boldly modern. Every space has been thoughtfully designed and there is something visually stunning around every corner. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. A special thank you to Claire, who greeted us and immediately made us feel at home. The hotel knew in advance that we were celebrating my partner Matthew’s 40th birthday and the team went above and beyond to make the occasion truly special. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I was delighted to receive a wonderful suite upgrade. The room was probably the most polished and beautifully presented hotel room I have ever stayed in. The views were spectacular and the thoughtful birthday decorations added an extra layer of magic to an already unforgettable stay. What impressed me most was the consistency of the service. From the bell staff, to the team at WOOBAR, to every staff member we encountered throughout the hotel, everyone delivered the warmth, personality, and professionalism that make the W brand so special. Every interaction felt genuine and every team member embodied true W standards. The facilities are equally remarkable. The pool, gym, sauna, and jacuzzi areas are unlike anything I have experienced before. Everything was immaculate, beautifully maintained, and presented to the highest standard.
