PB hotel design editorial

At 350 metres, the needle-slim tower rising over Shenyang's Shenhe District is among the tallest buildings in northeastern China — a curtain-wall shaft of blue-green glass that tapers to a chamfered apex visible from much of the city. Conrad Shenyang claims the upper floors of this mixed-use skyscraper, positioning the hotel far above the retail podium where Cartier and other luxury tenants anchor the tower's base, and giving every guest room an unobstructed panorama across the Liaoning plain. The interiors navigate the familiar tension of Chinese luxury hospitality — how to read as contemporary without abandoning cultural specificity — with reasonable confidence. Guest rooms in the upper categories layer warm rosewood-toned furniture with gold inlay wall panelling and silk-embroidered artwork depicting plum blossom, a motif with particular resonance in northeastern Chinese culture. The palette shifts between categories: some rooms favour taupe velvet headboards and cognac leather bench ends against deep-pile abstract carpets, while others open into cleaner cream-and-oak registers with brass accent lines. The top-floor restaurant wraps floor-to-ceiling glazing in tall bronze-finish vertical screens that subdivide the dining room into intimate arcs — curved burgundy banquettes and herringbone oak flooring grounding what would otherwise be an overwhelmingly vertical space. The indoor pool, set high in the tower and lined in cobalt mosaic tile, extends toward the curtain wall so that swimmers are suspended, visually at least, over the city's nighttime grid.

"The hotel is located at a posh area, linked to a huge mall selling mostly luxurious and branded items. When I first arrived, I was impressed by the service, from assisting with door opening to helping u with the luggage. It's worthy to note that the concierge is on the first level while the hotel lobby sits on level 88. From Level 88, you will go to your room levels of the executive lounge in another lift. I must mention, throughout my stay, there is no restriction in assessing the guest lifts, only until a certain time at night, you will need to be a registered guest. From checking in to the getting our rooms, I must say the experience was very professional and friendly, offering to help at every juncture. Impressive. As we arrived early and room was not ready, we went for our tours before coming back again in the evening and was pleasantly delighted I was upgraded to the executive level. The rooms at the executive level is spaciously large, with a good size toilet and a long bath. Toiletries given are of good standards and I must mention, there is a heated rung for you to hang your wet towels and by the next morning, they are all dry. The amenities provided in the room are very well thought and well designed. We also had the opportunity to visit the lounge for dinner which provides decent and customised order noodles. The executive lounge provides afternoon tea from 3 to 5pm and dinner cocktails from 6 to 8pm. The place is huge and spacious with staff attending to your needs. We did not use the fitness facilities but took time to take a look. One of the largest gym a hotel can provide with very fantastic overview of the city. The pool was reasonably sized, not small. The hotel also provide free lessons (yoga) on certain days of the week which must be prebooked. When you get sick and tired of the meals (mainly International & Chinese), you can always walk out to the next shopping mall, Forum 66 and find various meal options there. I had a little incident with ticketing for one of the local shows and I must say, Peter from the front desk is very helpful and assisted me to call the cinema, and navigated my WeChat app to retrieve the tickets. Not unexpected from a 5 star hotel, still heartwarming to receive assistance when you are foreign in a new city. Overall, it is a very pleasant stay and if I do pass by Shenyang, this is definitely one of my favourite hotels to stay!"

"This review is for the management at the Conrad to take note of. I've been at the Conrad numerous times when I've stayed in Shenyang. I consider it to be the premier hotel in Shenyang. However, I happened to be staying at another hotel on this trip, but wanted to go up to the 88th floor, have a drink and take in the night city view with a friend. When we went into the lounge area it was completely empty except for the nightly entertainment belting out some oldies but goodies. We took a window seat and immediately were accosted by one of the servers stating that it was a 500rmb minimum to sit there. This isn't about the money, my bar tab certainly exceeded the minimum, its about reading your customers. The poor server was doing her job, it was just a little awkward for everyone. I know you want to maximize every customer's experience, so I suggest you give your servers the ability to use discretion on enforcing this policy. I'm sure they can tell the difference between paying and non-paying customers...and besides, if the lounge is empty, does it matter?"

"The hotel is only 6 years old, however the facilities appeared to be much more worn out than anticipated. The room (two queen bed suite) was very spacious and well appointed. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the staff were professional and addressed us by our names. The location was superb with easy access to all attractions. The issue we had was despite being in a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor. The hotel stunk of cigarette smell throughout. We couldn’t escape from it the moment we stepped foot into the hotel and our room. The hotel provided us with an air purifier machine which helped reduce the smell by about 10%. Not sure what can be done to remove the smell but we will not be returning based on this."

"We arrived and were greeted the staff is so nice and the hotel is gorgeous. I am obsessed with the view because you could see everything and the hotel room was so clean and luxurious. It has a big bathtub and a gigantic shower also the food tasted amazing and the hotel is connected with the mall. I especially loved the vibes the hotel was giving."
