PB hotel design editorial

Pressing up through Futian's dense canopy of civic greenery, the tower that houses The Langham Shenzhen presents an interesting counter-argument to the district's prevailing glass-and-steel anonymity. The building's lower podium levels, visible from the images draped in planted terraces, give way to a mid-section dressed in warm bronze curtain-wall glazing framed by classically inflected white stone cornices — a deliberate grafting of Langham's London heritage onto a thoroughly twenty-first-century Chinese skyline. The 350-room property opened in 2013 within Futian's central business district, positioned to serve the financial institutions clustered around the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre. Inside, the interiors carry the atmosphere of a restrained European grand hotel translated into a Cantonese register — tufted headboards in cream fabric, dark mahogany case pieces with polished hardware, coffered ceilings with deep plaster cornicing, and patterned wool carpets in teal and champagne. The all-day dining space works a quieter palette: pale blue linen chairs at lacquered black tables, honey-toned timber panelling, and a marble-flagged floor whose black-and-white striping anchors the room against generous views of the surrounding parkland. The indoor pool on an upper floor deploys black-veined marble columns and surround against white coffered ceilings — a composition that favours architectural gravity over resort lightness. Throughout, the Langham house sensibility holds: crafted classicism worn with enough ease that the formality never tips into stiffness.

"Was a smooth and satisfying stay on multiple fronts. Filling in the character limit. And again And again"

"During this visit, the hotel appeared relatively quiet with limited guest traffic. As a Ruby member, I had expected to enjoy the standard membership benefits. However, aside from a room upgrade, I was unfortunately unable to experience the usual Ruby privileges. For example, early check-in was not offered, and at check-out I was initially informed that the check-out time was 12:00 pm. I had to mention my Ruby membership to request the 4:00 pm late check-out benefit (subject to availability). This created some confusion and was slightly disappointing. My wife and I have previously had very positive experiences at The Langham, Hong Kong, where the Ruby recognition included welcome gifts, beverages, dining vouchers, and even double room upgrades. That level of service left a strong impression on us. At The Langham, Shenzhen, however, it seemed that the front desk team may not have been fully familiar with membership recognition procedures. There appeared to be some uncertainty regarding my membership status, and at one point my wife was asked whether she would also be staying. While the tone was not impolite, the interaction suggested that the team may be relatively junior or still undergoing training. Overall, the stay did not meet our expectations based on prior Langham experiences. In Shenzhen, we have found that properties such as Park Hyatt and Conrad deliver a more consistent and polished level of service. I hope this feedback is helpful for your review and training purposes, as we genuinely value the Langham brand and hope to see more consistent member recognition across properties."

"We stayed at The Langham Shenzhen for 22 days and were really impressed. From the moment we arrived, the service was great. I want to give a special thanks to Jason, who welcomed us and was always available to help. Over the 3 weeks we were there, we can only say praise to the team that looked after us. The rooms are clean, well maintained and big. The buffet breakfast has huge range of continental and Chinese cuisine . Their concierges were always trying to help, especially young Lucas, who spoke perfect English and helped us to book various museum and galleries tickets."
